Are you tired of whiny, immature shoujo heroines who remain the same through-out the entire story? Have you ever found yourself cringing at unrealistic plot twists? Are you sick of depthless love-at-first-sight romances? Have you had enough of stereotypical characters and predictable plots?
Do you want something more? More depth? More development? More nerve-shattering, breath-holding moments? Something that would hook you and keep you on the edge of your seat?
Then this epic manga is truly the one for you.
Set in a distant post apocalyptic future, 7 seeds is a suspenseful and quite outstanding shoujo manga, the most realistic (in its portrayal of human emotions, thoughts and actions) manga I have ever had the pleasure to read. It's thought-provoking and unpredictable, makes you think about what you would have done had you been in the same situations as the characters. It lets you see the story through the eyes of the characters and drags you with them through dangerous situations, giving you a taste of their fear, sadness, courage, hope, happiness and will to survive. The pace is never monotone and Tamura Yumi's story-telling invites you to read further, to discover further, to feel further with the characters.
One of the major strengths of this series is the characters. Each one of them is incredibly deep and complex, driven by realistic feelings, making them very easy to identify with. No two characters are alike, personality-wise and they all have distinct, easy to tell apart appereances.
Tamura Yumi masters the art of steering your emotions and she knows how to make you hate, love, cheer for and cry for her characters.
The development is strong but slow, and the characters you'd have hated in the first chapters would be very dear to you over the course of 10 chapters. Some become stronger and more confident as they learn to cope with the situation, others sink into despair and guilt but in the end the characters will have grown on you one way or another.
The romance comes endlessly slow (some would say too slow) but when it does come, you'll be astounded by how true and authentic it'll feel. Slow, realistic, stable and endlessly heart-warming. That's true love and if you are a hopeless romantic like me, your heart will be beating steadily and you'll be fangirling like crazy at those moments.
One thing that is hard to adjust to when starting to read 7 seed is the art. I've had my moments of irritation at first but I was glad that kept reading. The art does gets better and in time you'll be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery, characters and places.
I know you'll love it and you will most definitely not regret reading this manga.
