I really enjoyed this manga. The characters and story were wonderful. The 2 leas has great chemistry, and for once the parents of the leads were pretty awesome. Didn't like the childhood friend though. He was a possessive douchebag. I don't give many 10s, but I think this deserves it.
Was plain at first but I came to really like it. But if I was Miwa I would've chosen Wataru, he's hotter. I like that possessive type, but Riku is attractive too. Anyhow the main girl was annoying at some parts.
I can kind of agree with turnip head, the beginning is really annoying Riku is a huge jerk in the beginning and I don't see how Miwa was so attracted to him. The pacing is odd, and as usual instead of the heroine being competent to form her thoughts and actions other characters (namely Riku using some contrived form of pop psychology) have to spell it out for her.
I mean it would've been better, but I never really felt invested into any of the characters except for Wataru and Miwa, and Miwa was really only half a character since everyone else was making decisions for her basically.
Don't be fooled by the slice of life-ish pacing it still has all the old shoujo cliches and you can guess who the ending pair will be by the end of the first volume. Still the photography angle was just enough set this apart from the rest. So give it a read if you're bored.
This manga was really entertaining and although it may seem cliche and obvious at times, there's just something about it that makes it so interesting. Perhaps its their view of life through the camera lens or their feelings for each other but i definitely didn't regret reading this. I definitely recommend this manga and you definitely won't regret it
Whatever you do READ this story. It's excellent. Don't let what I've written below dissuade you from reading it. It's just my explanation as to why I gave this story a 9 rather than a 10.
While the ending was a good one, I felt it wasn't entirely complete, so I couldn't in good conscience give it a 10. Though the ending was still a good one, I felt the ending left too much unfinished. I guess that was partly because the rest of the story was so well written that when I got to the end, I wanted more. Other readers may not feel this way because the ending was a good one. I just wanted it to go further into the story & tie up more loose ends than it did. However, I didn't feel that it was worth more than 1 point because it was still an acceptable ending, so I give the story a 9.
I love this manga.
The characters are fantastic, and very believable. I like the relationship between Miwa and Wataru a lot, too (and not in a romantic way, but in a "jeez, that's so realistic, I've seen that happen in real life tons of times and yet rarely in manga" way). The characters are all beautifully developed, basically.
What really kills me is the art, though. I mean, it's not perfect (Miwa's hair really annoys me, for one, since it's just so.. choppy), but the expressions on the character's faces are so subtle and... human, that I get goosebumps looking at them. Even more, I love the poses the characters stand in. They, of all things, are just... so unusual in their reality. I feel like most mangakas don't draw their characters in the way people really stand because they either don't feel like drawing hands (they are quite a pain, so it's understandable) or they're trying to pump out pictures too quickly.
Still, the poses in Auto Focus are just... phenomenal. I'm not sure if I can describe this accurately, but I'm trying. XD I basically feel like the characters sprawl or lean around in.. real, familiar poses that are comfortable and normal. And it's so rare, and so wonderful.
Yeah. I really don't think I'm describing it in justice, but.. this manga (despite being cliche) is brilliantly subtle and... real. Very, very underrated.
i was immediately annoyed with our hero. almost immediately, i was annoyed with the girl who was captivated by him. still. it's probably got depth, emotion, blah persnickety blah blah. maybe i need to switch genres for a while if this one- that scores so high on the popularity poll- is irritating me so soon after picking it up.
then again, maybe it's just the manga.
Love this series. Hopefully they release the next chapters soon. I am really excited.
The art style is pretty decent but it's the story that makes it so great. A must read!!!
