back in vol 1-7 there was some story to this thing if i remember correctly
and interesting characters like Hinata...this is like Dragonball but without the humour that make Toriyamas work so good.
Kishimotos Naruto is a story that takes it self to serious for its own good...

Although everyone is entitled to their negative opinion, naruto is a good anime with a good plot which is becoming better and developing even more to get you hooked on the story, it can be seen as either you hate it or love it as first, but if you stick with it, it becomes really good, most people who criticize naruto are the type of people who hasn't really watched many of the later episodes and only watched the first season and then criticaze it, without watching it at all... the manga is better than the anime, but the anime does add non needed filler, which isn't great, but is still good

Yeah Naruto isn't that intellectual, sure its plot isn't that good. But to not even give it a passing grade is something only attention seekers would do. It's definitely a good anime. If you noticed, most fighting manga/anime are in a way centered around a few characters, so that you can actually relate to their growth, struggles, feelings etc. It's true that Naruto is somewhat a similar to DBZ (Kishimoto doesn't hide the fact that he's a DBZ fan) but the fights are nowhere near the ridiculous super-long nature of DBZ fights. But then again, Naruto IS about fighting and stuff, so you can also say it's similar to Bleach, Full Metal Panic, Ikkitousen, Kenshin, Gundam Seed, Card Captor Sakura, Cowboy Bebop, Hunter x Hunter, bla bla.

A weak story. <-- If you love deep plots so much you're better off reading novels or shoujo manga, Naruto is a manga about FIGHTING, it thrives on ACTION. That's not to say Naruto has a weak plot, there IS a master plot and it's just unravelling.

The story is only those 4 ninja village fighting each other. <-- Hello? What'd you expect? That's the bloody theme of Naruto. Well, sort of. I can see you're just completely jumping on the I-hate-Naruto-cuz-it's-popular bandwagon without even thinking about your comments.

It's iconic for a good reason, but that also makes it generic quite often. If you don't like the typical anime shounen power of friendship stuff it's not for you, but otherwise it's very good.

I love this manga, but the war took soooooo soooo loooong OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.....And the buddy buddy super positive friends forever no matter what atittude was a bit too much for my taste...

So I first want to state that the anime was the whole reason I started liking anime to begin with, back when the very first episode came out on toonami. I own a lot to this show even though I almost dropped it 3 times due to how slow the story progressed and how long some back stories were. Each time I took a break from it to let story advance more the more I realized just how amazing this story is. I would recommend this to anyone, this was one of and probably will still be one of the greatest manga of its time and im sad to see it go. The ending for once isn't rushed and it very smooth which is very nice to see. I've been with Naruto for about 10 years now, I think probably longer, and I truly love this series

I loved Naruto ever since I was a kid.... I had been following it since 2nd grade... and then the latest arc happened.

For 100+ chapters, the author dwelled on the same material.. Sure, I was glad to see sasuke and itachi again... but the madara wanting to rule the world because of the past just got too tiring...Seriously, that's pretty cliche. But that's not the problem. The problem is that, to drag the ending manga on and on, the author spent 2 years on the same arc!

It's a four-year-old's idea of what war looks like

What really killed this for me is the war. I suffered through bad ideas and utterly unnecessary flashbacks and weird raps for Naruto until it becomes offensive to read. The portrayal of war in Naruto has been facile and it should not have even touched that subject. Wars are never clear cut good vs. evil because both sides believe they are right, the leaders as well as the people on the battlefield, and that's some really stellar propaganda at work. And what about the civilian side of things? The tragedy side of things? Kishimoto just uses it as an excuse to show moves and choreograph battles and get Naruto to train. He doesn't even have the decency to write strategies and tactics to make things interesting, if he's willing to abandon humanistic values. I remember the village leaders' convention, all bravado with the drama of a Next Top Model panel. Before anybody goes to war, they actually do their best to avoid going to war, even if they want to conquer they demand surrender first. Get it Kishinoto? That's why you should just have stuck to what you know.
