Description

Sakurakouji Sakura is a girl who appears modest and graceful but in reality is skilled in martial arts. After witnessing a boy burning people with his blue flame, she is startled to see that the same boy is a transfer student, Oogami Rei. Oogami is a Code Breaker, one who "does not exist". He is a seemingly cold-blooded killer who follows the principle of "an eye for an eye", to "use evil against evil". Convinced that killing is not right, Sakurakouji sets out to stop him and penetrate his icy heart.

Code: Breaker is something I started reading after I finished Samurai Deeper Kyou. I liked it in the beginning, it looked like it was really going somewhere. The main character, Sakura, starts out cool. Then, she gradually becomes a sideshow, acting like a damsel in distress while protesting the killing she makes half-assed attempts to stop. The anti-hero, Rei, starts out a killer, and stays on that path for the rest of the series. The only problem I have with him is that he can be so emotionally awkward it's almost painful, and he's so distant that he doesn't even form real friendships with the other characters. I almost can't see how he and Sakura form the oddball relationship they do have. Like another commenter said, the comedy is so awkwardly placed it's almost inappropriate, and sometimes I just raise my eyebrows as a psycho killer suddenly decides to give up their ways.

Overall, I think this is something I would read for the sake of reading it. I've gotten attached to it based on the secrets that pop up, so the mystery and the NEED to know drives me. The art is also pretty fantastic, and the story idea isn't half bad, though slightly confusing in the beginning. Also, I want to see the characters develop further, which according to them has happened behind my back O.O. I suggest you read this, but only if you can keep up with it!

So, I read the manga until chapter 162. For me, the plot has started deteriorating. The story became overly draggy for me. But the fact that I was once mesmerized by this manga makes me unable to give it up. I still love this manga. Hopefully the draggy-ness wears off and the story starts to get better. I'm really hoping that the current arc ends quickly and a new arc begins.The hidden past is what I'm looking forward to.

I started this when it first came out and followed it weekly for about 2 or 3 years, but either I got older, or my taste got better, or the manga just deteriorated, whatever the reason I stopped reading it. Recently I decided to go back and try again not its complete. Firstly, it's a lot more tolerable when a single fight doesn't take 5 weeks to get through. Secondly, I find the character interactions humorous and very interesting. That's a big plus. The back story could be better I felt.

It lost plausibility in its attempts to ensure that none of the heroes were truly to blame for the massacre, which stopped making sense once the egotistical emperor was revealed to have been mislead by the true big bad.

One thing that bothered me was how Sakura was initially introduced as a cool beauty with black belt level martial arts skills, and then she failed to actually use any of her training at all after about chapter 5. What was the point in her having them then?

As with every shonen this manga suffers from the typical cliches of super quick power ups, totally random training arcs, overly emotional displays of friendship and unity, lots of rather hypocritical declarations of saving people and valuing life (from a bunch of underworld assassins), and no one actually dying from their life threatening wounds.

In general though, as a shonen, I found it far more enjoyable the second time around when I wasn't forced to wait for updates. It's not the greatest mange ever written, but it's worthy of being a light read. Overall I would rate it a 5 or 6, but since it fits the target demographic well, and I'm feeling generous, I'm giving it an 8.

it started like your usual shounen manga but it was still pretty good back then. The setting was very interesting at the beginning as so many things remained unknown.
But now it has one big flaw: It tries to bring in thousands of different ideas (some of them are very cliche). Sadly, most of them are executed very poorly and it completely destroys the atmosphere. Hope it gets better since the start was good.

Really interesting but at the same time it's marred by waaaay too much plot twists and revelations that it just can't seem to get on with the story. Each of the recent chapters pretty much have a plot twist at the end; doesn't the author know when enough is enough?

Surprisingly, I found this manga pretty interesting despite the fact that I didn't like Samurai Deeper Kyo much. Ogami is a rather intriguing character since he has this "I don't care who I kill" attitude about him. He is similar to Light from DN but he doesn't seem to have any desires to rule the world or anything like that. He actually takes orders from someone else.

Sakura was an okay heroine at the beginning but now she's getting a little annoying. I really dislike preachy, pushy, nagging characters. I know she wants to change Ogami's viewpoint but seriously....I don't see how shoving the guy's face in your chest is going to instantly stop him from killing people. (Yes, yes I know she wanted him to hear her heart and make him realize that he's human but who in their right mind would think that he would suddenly break down, renounce all the 'evil' that he's done, and become some normal schoolboy?)

I do hope that Ogami stays the way he is for a while. He really makes a pretty interesting anti-hero.

This manga is pretty awesome. Oogami reminds me of the guy from Kaze no Stigma, but even more badass. The main girl is kinda an idiot. She tries to stop the dude from killing all the bad guys even when they're about to rape/kill her. But she gets bonus points for having "Mii-tan" and "Hii-tan" ^_^

I stumbled upon the anime several years and, though certainly flawed, found it to be enjoyable enough that I would consider it a "hidden gem." It was just enjoyable enough that the cliffhanger the anime ends with gave me the desire to continue on with the manga. What a mistake that was. This manga just gets progressively more and more asinine, silly, cliched, yet somehow uniquely dumb.

I would say "just watch the anime" but the anime just makes you want to continue the story and will no doubt lead you here, only to find the same disappointment awaiting you that I just wrote about. Better skip this series altogether.

This will be a very poor review because i really don't know what i just read, i can't collect my thoughts. The first arc, about 100chps, they were pretty good, well if i didn't like it in the begining i wouldn't have continued reading it. After that it just got a lot more complicated, introduced a lot of things, not one of them explained properly and i am still very confused by it all. I tend to pile up chps and then read it in a bunch, so for the last 50+ chps that i had left, in every one of those there was something "major" discovered. So talk about messy and trying to comprehend all that information that didn't make sense, that was trying to be incorporated into the current story which was already pretty messy and difficult to understand.
And the ending, the f? I just can't, im too much wtf-ing with this, it's my first time that a manga gave me so much questions above the head. Not even Air gear watered down its story as much...
