Great translation, Great story, Great everything
by TheIro

I was initially put off by some of the comments describing the protagonist as some sort of ruthless jerk before I started reading this novel.

But after reading it, I've got no idea where they got that from. We must be reading completely different books... or perhaps they're just trolling.

In nearly every single time the protagonist kills somebody, its pretty much always in self defence, and that only applies to enemies who are dead set on killing him. Even when fighting, as long as the opponent treats the protag with honour and respect, he'd return the same respect and let them off with the minimum amount of injury when he wins. If anything I'd say he's too damn nice. The only people the protag has gone out his way to try kill are the ones who murdered his family or intend to the same to his friends. Good for him I say!! A true man will no less to protect his family and loved ones.

As for the novel itself, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The translation quality is flawless, no machine translation nonsense, no bad grammar, excellent writing to the level of Ren's Coiling Dragon translation (perhaps slightly better, as no bad naming sense in westernised names). The story itself is even more interesting than Coiling Dragon. The cliffhangers, the adventures, the twists and the FEELS, oh man the feels. That alone makes it better than CD. The protag in this novel is a manly man. He's also more emotional character than the protag in CD, which makes it more enjoyable to read through as he faces various challenges. Great writing, great story, great characters. This is the best Chinese novel I've ever had the pleasure of reading. A fantastic book through and through.

All hail the great translators of this great novel for bringing it to the english speaking world. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ

I laughed, I cried, It was better than Douluo Dalu

The things this MC says and does in regards to his women really makes me laugh so hard. I am not sure if it is meant to be a comedy but he tickles my funny bone.

The story itself is brilliant. I agree with bakaleaf with his spoiler. The moment I read that chapter, I was sold 100%. Such a great read and I would recommend it to everyone.

The way this MC deals with all of his enemies is unique. He thoroughly torments them and makes them suffer in many ways. This is a guy you do not want to cross. Very, very unique in his revenge and warnings. This is not just a run of the mill 'destroy the whole sect because derp'. Not just psychical suffering, mental and financial. He will provide you with hope beyond belief just so that it is even more soul shattering for you to watch your hopes and dreams crumble in front of you.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Disguising himself as a peerless doctor to sneak into Xaio sect to heal the young master he crippled. He then healed the young master, gained their trust and led them to believe he was a sage who was going to ally himself with them, promised them the young master could become a peerless master if they spent all their money to buy a dragon core and even making the young master call him 'grandfather'.

He then made it so the young master was permanently crippled and could never be healed even by a genius doctor. He robbed 1000 years of treasure from their vault and let them know the dragon core they bought was actually a fake and the person they had all been treating like a king and calling grandfather was actually the person who crippled the young master - BRILLIANT!

Very Easy Read Turned Guilty Pleasure
by cnd

tl;dr: It's generic but does generic Xianxia extremely well with a great MC. First book blows on the first read through so I would highly suggest reading through the first two books before deciding whether or not you want to drop.

You will not find a ground breaking novel that challenges your intellect here, but if you're looking for that why are you even reading Wu/XianXia in the first place? What you will find is a mostly likable protagonist that's quite funny, a decently exciting world, the stock bad guys from similar genres, and a decent amount of fast paced action (after the first book anyways) which makes for what is currently my #1 guilty pleasure read.

The biggest problem I have with this novel is that it starts of extremely slow and only really picks up after book 1, but who really wants to read a full book without a large emotional attachment to any of the characters? Don't get me wrong, I understand that there needs to be changes in pace for the fast paced parts of a book to have more impact, but there's a difference between slowing the pace down and forcing the reader to watch grass grow. (which, again, I believe stems from the fact that no one is going to be emotionally invested in all the random characters introduced at the book's beginning -- re-reading the beginning is much better)

It's quite formulaic as well, but, again, I knew that going in and so I don't mark off any points for it. If I wanted to read a existential analysis of the world that challenges my world view and makes me question my humanity I would read Dostoevsky; I don't, I just want to read about a likable MC beating the crap out the world, finding random powerful level ups everywhere and getting every girl. This books serves that purpose very well.

A note on the translation -- while not perfect (and can you really expect perfection from volunteers working off donations?) it is quite good and easy to get through, unlike some other translated light novels/wuxia.

Of Why Chinese Novels >>> Japanese Novels

> MC is NOT wimpy or a pushover BUT Smart and Ruthless
> Gets on with his Harem rather than shying away from it
> Interesting and Engaging plot with whole lot of World building unlike Slice of life Yawn fest or Rinse and repeat scenarios of Japanese Novels
> Character Development, you watch characters progress and develop relationship and not stagnate with 1 step forward 2 steps back
> Great Action and not useless bantering or stalling for time

MC is absolutely Ruthless!!! Do him wrong and he makes it a Vengeance to destroy the very existence of living for that person/Sect/Family and not just any revenge ....but something to haunt them for the rest of their lives

best MC next to Lelouch

The main character gives the villains the proper* punishment they deserve. I was getting tired of all of the wishy washy protagonists and finally this novel has one with the guts to do a thorough justice. I won't spoil the plot but you can expect an awesome MC, somewhat harem, and action.

One of the best and most recommended, try a couple dozen chapters and you'll be hooked.

First off, my standpoint is that I read the translated chapter and the latest is at 90+ right now. I've read CD, MGA, Desolate Era, Stellar Transformation, so that's my comparison as standards for now (not yet ISSTH and BTTH, probably will update after reading for better comparison reference).

Good points:
MC is very likeable, he's the usual victim of bully and mockery because he was weak and useless, but after he powered up, he is not naive and can be ruthless only to the one that hurts him the most (not like MGA's MC that even kill the opponent's entire family, servant, etc) which is a nice sweet revenge feeling but also not over the common moral limit, and how he does it is better than MGA that only decapitate or behead enemies.

His flirts with the heroines are one of the best that I've ever seen (really fun to read, you will grin and giggle while reading it)

And the BEST POINT is that this is not just the usual weak MC get power up and beat 'em up plot, MC's a smart one and often play tricks on their opponent and this can be mind-blowing sometimes and is really fun to read. so yeah, it's not just the usual 'I hate you, I'm gonna beat you up' style.

I would rate this above Coiling Dragon because of the great romance part and the trickery part that CD lacks.

If you have read MGA and you say its story is good, this is as good as that (if not better), and the MC is much much much MUCH more likeable.

10/10 recommended, just try to read it until couple dozen chapters and you most likely will fall for this novel (it's not a slow start like CD)

I used to like it but now...

I used to love this novel for the starting 200-300 chapters. Sure there was nothing new in this novel as the novel borrows most of the elements from other novels of Xianxia/Xuanhuan category (Talented protagonist being reincarnated into a "trash"/ Super powerful & All-knowing Master who lacks true body (Jasmine)/ MC having super OP treasure) but it was still fine given I liked the MC’s personality.

Now it has become totally repetitive. It’s annoying to see every idiot out there claiming how strong they are and then getting their asses kicked by Yun Che. It was fun at start but now their arrogant attitude is annoying the hell out of me especially seeing no villain has any brains…they are just stupid villains who continue to underestimate Yun Che even after knowing that he can easily defeat opponents far beyond his level.

The other thing I’m hating is how easily Yun Che easily overcome every trouble. No matter how strong the oppponent is he always gains new power or find help during the middle of a battle. He might use all his stamina and author would highlight that it's impossible for MC to continue but then MC would easily overpower dozen of strong guys... There are events which author would hype to showcase that MC is deep crisis but then resolve the said crisis by giving MC heaven defying treasure or legacy. The plot armor is too thick. It’s like all the treasures and legacies are waiting for MC.

Romance and harem in the series are totally annoying. Author really sucks in the romance department. Most of the female love interest are one dimensional idiots with no personality at all. His past life love interest, his little aunt, the princesses from Blue Wind Empire and Phoenix Empire… their personality are completely same (Kind hearted plus naive and stupid). Its like author just changes name of the female character but they are all same including their jade like skin! You wouldn’t find a single girl interesting. And those who are interesting at start will soon turn into one dimensional after falling for Yun Che’s awesomeness *cough* Little Fairy *cough*

The baddest part is how author keeps on saying how awesome Yun Che is. Plus author would tell us about his abilities multiple times in a chapter. We already know he can defeat opponents far beyond his level and that he has support of many legacies but there is no need to be a fangirl in every chapter and repeat this in every chapter which has action. Of course character shilling is important in such novels but there is a limit.

If Don't Like MCs That Don't Mind Slaughtering People Then This Isn't For You

Seriously. Right at the beginning, they say that he's slaughtered millions of people. What does that mean for the readers? It means You're going to be reading something with a character that's slightly murder-happy. Don't think too much about it. I find it reminiscent of MGA, since both MCs are murder-happy, but Yun Che is at least kind to the women he loves.
(Chu Feng is a possessive asshat.)
Yun Che is, indeed, an incredibly OP MC, but let's face it: In martial arts novels like this, the MCs are either stupidly weak, or stupidly OP. You can take your pick, but I prefer the stupidly OP MCs. If they're going to be unrealistic, they might as well be badass.

Read up to RAW ch. 390.
MC is smart, well mannered but also ruthless to his enemies. The characters around the MC also has depths which is really nice. MC also got some actions with his harem which is very refreshing.
The author did a good job with the dialogues, fights are not too shounen-y with bunch of banters like MGA or you know, shounen mangas/novels. I'd say there are a lot of comedic situations mostly through smart dialogues.
Highly recommend while it's still very good.

Manly Che

What can I say. This novel it's really freaking good. Why? Well first of all lets start with the fact that the freaking reincarnation actually plays a role in the story. Other novels, such as BTTH, have the mc be some dude who reincarnates and then never mentions the fact that he is from another world again? The only reason they add that its as a gimmick to get the audience to feel more connected to the mc. In ATG the reincarnation plays a huge role in the story and it is done very well. The pacing of the story is well done and you are almost always looking forward to something happening. Other than this the main character is the best I have ever seen from any asian novel/comic. It is very rare to see asian main character actually purposely flirt with the females and making moves on them. The main character is a boss, and besides a few flaws every now and then for the sake of plot ,such as the recent burning heaven incident, I can easily say he is the best main character of any of the novels I have read/reading. Overall this is probably my favorite novel and although since all these novels are ongoing this spot is always changing, I still recommend it to everyone. P.S. Did I mention the amazing godly harem?
