Even so, she's in love with the kind and popular Touma-kun, who doesn't mind the way she looks and is always nice to her. But... will Touma ever see her as a love interest?

No it is pretty racist

After the first chapter i immediately wanted to stop reading but kept because it had good reviews then finished it out of spite hoping it would improve. There is the common troop of the man with a scary face and a cute girl, this acts like it the opposite but it’s not and is just dripping in colorism sexism and racism. The first chapter her skin tone is way darker than all the rest when they start making her cuter. Her skin tone changes in every scene and not in a way of shadowing but I’m a way of every time she is meant to be ugly, or scary, her skin tone is 3x darker. When she is cute and actually smile in an “ attractive” way her skin is not toned at all. Her friend is pretty racist as well and is never actually nice to her as she is only constantly making her make ugly faces and then drawing attention to her flaws. The girl has low self esteem because she has been made to thing she is ugly just by existing and truly the ml does not help at all. He did in fact originally make fun of her then didn’t actually apologize. He is clearly just an m which is fine on its own but he doesn’t actually bring anything of value to her and only gives her something to idolize and then make herself feel worse about. He also then insult her for not having a good self esteem and doesn’t try to help her but just punished her with his attitude and literally never defend her in any meaningful way. If u enjoyed it cool, but for me this just re enforced colorism in Asia while also portraying her as a stereotypical “strong scary dark skinned person” that many Asian countries view western black people as.

Not that racist

Yes there were undercurrents of racism but it wasn't that bad. So the standards of beauty for Japanese people would obviously be a white skin and most of the racism here just reflects that. It's smthg I easily ignored (and I tell you should too) otherwise it's a pretty great story. The racist thing is there but the ML isn't a racist. He never hated on our FL for being darker skinned so i easily ignored it. FL also learned to love her face and color thanks to ML so YAAAAY.
the reverse gender roles tag is there for a reason and it will be really obvious in later chapters.

This manga is basically "light skin good, dark skin bad" (the english publisher even put a warning in the first pages). Not very funny, too.

Also, if you stumble upon this manga because of the "reversed gender roles" tag, you're going to be disappointed.

Hilarious and enjoyable

Is manga was wayyy hilarious and enjoyable. Breaking the gender role norms and still feeling very shoujo-ish. I wanted more!!!! I think the managaka should've kept going and actually show us what a man Touma can become (Hirata as well)! I wanted to see how he'd reaction if another guy was interested in Hirata, and I want him to meet her parents!!!

I'm a fan of Seino-sensei, surprisingly I don't think this manga is hilarious, instead, it failed many times, the jokes are so... idk how to describe them, it's like the author tried too hard, they're not funny at all. But I love this manga, it's very touching, deep and the main characters are just perfect for each other. It makes you believe they have a strong relationship, they really love and treasure each other, no matter how many years pass by that hardly changes. It's that great feeling I got after reading this manga, a wonderful artwork that doesn't just contain crazy gag.

This is one of the funniest Shoujo I have read till now. The characters are really refreshing. The female lead is hilarious and I adored the gender role reversal towards the end. The male lead is introduced as the usual "cool" and handsome fellow but I loved how the mangaka tackled him falling in love with the female lead.
To summarise: It's a unique and hilarious manga that'll keep you smiling till the end! DO give it a read guys xD

This manga had me laughing nearly the whole time I was reading it. If you want something funny I recommend this one. I've read a lot of manga and I haven't come across one like this so It get originality points, the art was superb. I really can't find anything wrong with it.

I found this manga hilarious ! All the scene with the main character "ugly face" made me laugh out loud.
And it's original, it changes from the usual clichés in shoujo.
