This manga really got me. It's triggering and sick. But I really liked it, this may be due to my interest in psychology and mental illness. Here we go:
So you see Sangwoo a psychopath created from his childhood trauma and Bum a prisoner of his obsessive disorder, brought on by again, childhood trauma. Seeing there will be a combination of these two mentally Ill figures, I took a breath and was ready for a shitstorm.
The chaos was real on Sangwoo's part, stating that he doesn't plan, he just goes with a flow. It kept me glued. Bum made my chest ache when he complied with Sangwoo's sick games. It was actually upsetting, his struggle between fear and desire.. Ending with desire being the winner about each time, Bum staying with him as a result.
This is a psychological thriller for a reason, it explained why the characters developed into this behavior, this story doing that helps to understand these characters and why they spiraled into manic behaviors.
This is not a story for the faint of heart, the sexual assault in this is a lot, but was Bum willing?
Being the definition for sexual assult is "an act in which a person intentionally sexually touches another person without that person's consent." This area is a heavy, controversial topic. But seeing Bums behavior as well as Sangwoo's, the sexual interaction were rough but Bum was infatuated in these interactions and was both insisting and resistant on it continuing. I don't deny the abusive content but Bum's infatuation gave a sense he was willing. But Bum seemed unwilling through the pain and injuries he went through during their sexual encounters. I call it that 'cause I'm not quiet comfortable calling it sex. See the controversy?
In my opinion, if you see this in any way romantic, it's not. There is no romance, just abuse. To me this was not a love story. This is a toxic stew of trauma, abuse sewn together by two mentally ill people.
So if you enjoy psychological thrillers with triggering content, this is for you.
