I've got many friends who aren't familiar with anime/manga. If there was ever a need to recommend anything of the shoujo sort to them, this manga would come first. It's probably also the reason why I'm still reading shoujo tbh. Reason being that his/her art is pretty to look at even if its simple, the plot is interesting and I'm a plain sucker for funny side characters. Also, this manga has a strong, smart female protagonist (like thank god right?). It's really refreshing. I mean, she's ordinary, yes, but she doesn't sit down and cry for hours or go out of her way to do something stupid because her love interest is in the frying pan. This is what I like most about this manga.
Other than that, it's simple and light. Won't give you too much of a headache to read. You can see that in the mangaka's other works, too. Highly recommended though Hana ni Arashi is the best out of the lot, so start here.
If you are interested, Takagi Shigeyoshi's sibling (though I think it's her/him anyway because the art's way too similar) produces manga under the Yaoi/Shounen Ai tag. Great stuff though a bit more heavy and explicit compared to his/her shoujo mangas.

The art is good and the story is ok, if not cliche. The problem is it doesn't know if it wants to be a comedy or serious story and so never really manages either. Good for a quick, breezy read though.

The main story was great and I really liked it! the oneshots though, were dark and I don't really like those types of stories, so I was kind of surprised those were together with the main one since the main story is so light-hearted, but they are good anyways. If you're like me and don't really like dark or melancholic stories then just don't read the oneshots

Just so magnificent~!

i think i like this series more than Film Girl, at least there's an adequate amount of romance in it, uwah love it, the power of love here is so overpowering. ( <---My thoughts after reading volume 1)
I love how Riko keeps to her principles, believing in justice, capable of taking care of herself, and of course her magnificent stunt acts, dope~ Usually you'll see the female protagonist at the back of the lines, waiting and hoping for a good outcome, or they'll be crying their way out and to the extent sacrificing themselves like selling themselves to the other party, but Riko is different, she'll be like, "we're going through this together" kinda thing, stay by his side the whole time~ now this mangaka is cool for making such a cool character~
Thoughts reading volume 2 - well, it just gets better, love is crazy flowing in the air~ and somehow or rather, it becomes comical to watch their love grow. Cheesecake dude...the more i see Riko in action, the more i like her, she is so someone to look up to~! She's like your wife that stays home and when you're in trouble, that's when her time has come to save you...well, that's the feeling she gives off to me. I love her in every way man, love how the way she handles situations~ and to me it was a good ending and a nice epilogue, muaha loved it.
About the oneshot, i think Fureru Ondo seems unbelievable, sigh, at the end i don't like the story at all, maybe it's just hard for me to understand what's going on.
And did i forget to mention, once again great art by the great Takagi Shigeyoshi ^_^

Main story was ok, if a bit childish and had a lot of hilarious moments.
In comparison, both one-shots are unexpectedly dark, and dealing with dreadful themes. First :
Second:
They are ok too, though.

Hana ni Arashi's one redeemable point is that the characters are reasonably well drawn. Otherwise, it's contrived shoujo drivel to the max. Everything's very forced and unnatural, and none of the characters act like actual people. There's just no rhyme or reason to this manga, so unless you're really inexplicably infatuated with the premise or the art, this manga is a total skip.

Fast paced, unrealistic, but cute

I thought this storyline lacked a 'realistic' element to it, most of it was quite farfetched. The fast pace just doesn't quite match up with the events. But the ending was worth reading up to, and there are quite a few lovely symbolic elements in it. The characters were established alright I guess, especially the girl. The art is also quite nice.

pretty good? yup?

i generally liked this! like it's been said, it's pretty unrealistic, but not the unrealistic where it makes it seem like it's realistic - if that makes any sense~ i dunno, it was an ok plot (i've seen it a few times before, but you'll have that!) and at times unnecessarily dramatic after periods of relaxing bits (although maybe that was a kind of reference to the relationship between the characters?) but for it's length it was enjoyable. any more and i don't think i could have taken much longer...
i like the art too, i think it helped a lot
i'd say worth the time, especially if you like this mangaka, and BA girl leads! that was the highlight for me, was the ability with which she took no BS ;p
p.s. i liked the oneshots better too~~ waaah~

the ending made me go, "oh... that's it?" but i'm glad it wasn't over the top i guess. it's just a bit weird he showed up after she thought he was dead the whole time?? that just shows how crazy and whirlwind he is ??? i dunno~

Haha, is it bad that I liked the one-shots better?
I mean, not that the main story was bad, not at all. The main story was definitely cute, a little cliche, but overall was very refreshing. Especially the female lead. The humor was often exaggerated, but that just makes the story that more funny. Nothing life-changing, but definitely worth the read.
What I really liked though, were the one-shots. I love Takagi Shigeyoshi's style in her one-shots. Similar to her other one-shot works, like Ningyo ga Fuchi, Anya Kouro and Akuma ni Itsukushimi no Te o , they both had a melancholic atmosphere, and tragic characters, but at the same time, a touch of positive light and even humour.
