The only way to describe this webtoon is FLAWLESS... to me at least. I'm a sucker for strong ladies but the main character blew my expectations away. It's possible to have a good, strong character and still develop that character as the story goes on.

I've been so bothered by the scarcity of strategic minded women, but now I can rest in peace (somewhat).

Recommended to anyone who hasn't read it yet.

The female character is hands down the best in all manga I've read so far. She is awesome!!! For the first time we have a female character who is on par with the main male character, Such a relief!

I've read this since 2013 and I always think how stunning the art and the story of this manga. The art (which is very detail, beautiful, and suck my emotion) alone had made my eyes paused much longer than others manga/manhua I've ever read. And the super-awesome plot made this series my favorite-ever manga/manhua.

Chang ge is awesome. Not always awesome, though. There were times when I want to kick her to make her move on from her sadness. But she did move on, and the author did provide necessary time for her to grab her resolution back, in beautiful and meaningful pace. And this what make her human. Actually, I love how this manhua showed human as human. Ashina, Chang ge, Ah Dou, every character in this manhua is so human. Yeah, though Chang ge such a badass.

Romance pace is very slow, but it's indeed here. The latest chapter I read (41) finally make me, a fangirl, jump with excitement (basically, I excited for every small romance hint between Sun and Chang ge, hahaha).

lately, conflict between Ah Dou and Chang ge made a good twist. Also, I wonder when the condition for Chang ge to go to Ashina's side would occur xDD

Highly recommended.

Strong female ead

This piece of work is simply great. One thing that I noticed was how the author made the transition of Ashina Sun (Main love interest?) from a barbaric tribe general, who seemed ruthless and scary, to a more subtle and calmer character right after he found out his true origins and that Li Chang Ge was a girl. It happened so fast that it was sort of weird to me....When he was first introduced, he was a cold blooded warrior on the battlefields. I guess it was weird seeing him dress up and act so...mannered(?) later on.

Regardless, great manga. I'm happy it was recommended!

A great read not to be overlooked

A very strong willed, and intelligent female lead, yet the author still crafts a character with plenty of room for growth and character development. The beginning was confusing at first, (lots of characters popping up and hard to figure out what their positions were), but it definitely got better after that.

Lovely art, but at times it's hard for me to distinguish some characters later on in the series without looking twice.

A great read for the intriguing story (it definitely did not lead me to where I thought it would after the first few chapters!), and great character development and great characters.

If anything, the character even degenerates in terms of relative strength in the series. In the first few chapters, she is seen as invincible: jumping across mountains and taking down foes with ease. As the series progresses, she realizes more and more of her faults. As the reader, through the lens of her experience, you are humbled by the little knowledge and skill she actually has. This is really quite rare for a manga where most people "gain" skills/knowledge by triumphing against a foe. In this series, the main character truly learns from her mistakes. She seems strong initially, but she actually is weak. Still, she is growing as a person and as a character, which makes this series very different from conventional ones and makes for an exciting read.

I can't believe that I almost skipped this gem because I saw that it had only one chapter out.

Turns out, there is around 4 volumes worth of chapters already scanlated. :/

But this manga is really really good. The characters personalities are well-crafted and explored within this manga. So far, the plot of seems really solid, and although I can probably guess the direction it's moving in, no hints is given about the final outcome, which, to be honest, makes it even more attractive for me.

Even though this is set during the Tang Dynasty, there isn't much of those scenes where the main character is useless because of her gender. Gender, you'll realise, doesn't really factor much into this manga. Capable women are popping up all over the place, including the MC of this story.

So, read this! Those who like Strong MCs with character development won't be disappointed.

A real gem

This series will definitely become well known one day. One of the strongest and yet most realistic female leads I've ever seen combined with great character development throughout the story.
A well crafted plot with lots of turns, solid art (except for the prelude, i wonder why) and intriguing characters... can't wish for much more.

even though there are only a few chapters out the story is quite good and the characters are very interesting.
If you like chinese history and military tactics kind of manga, this one is truly recommended 😀

The BEST historical manhua around! Chang Ge is gifted, skilled in the art of war and diplomacy and can match wits with the main guy Ashina. The art is breath taking and the story fast-paced. As mentioned in the comments below (by tori_no_uta) her character growth is wonderful to watch.
Definitely read all the chapters released. Too bad the fight between Xia Da and her publisher caused this series to go on a hiatus.
Still I eagerly await her next story!

Wuxia in manhua

I absolutely love this!!
-Strong female lead
-Wuxia setting but more based on the "normal" aspect rather than the fantastical martial arts. But it does have it.

The artwork, pacing, story are all amazing.

I grew up watching wuxia series so this was wonderful to read. And its not too cluttered with long expositions or crazy happenings. Its just...great.
