Rasetsu no Hana

Description

Yakou Hoshino has the ability to create barriers made of water. He then lends his powers to a ‘ghost buster’ company where he meets the agency's only 'real exorcist', a woman named Rasetsu. Though Rasetsu has mysteries of her own including the fact that she’s cursed by an evil spirit, and that she’s the spitting image of Yurara’s guardian ghost.

and I didn't regret it. IMO, it wasn't that amazing but still fun to read. Maybe because, I've read a lot of stories now that I kinda get how things are gonna go. I like how short it was, good thing the story isn't dragged too much. There are just some parts in the story that feels forced though, just for the sake of having a key to a story or a triggering scenario for an event.

Now, am I gonna recommend you to read this?
You can go try but don't expect too much.

I only read the beginning of yurara but I completed this one. While the plot is rather simple and straightforward , it is intriguing enough to keep me hooked. At first it is kind of episodic, going from one case to another, while dropping clues about the main plot. The ending wrapped things up nicely. I didn't finish the prequel but had no problems reading this one because it's a whole different story.
The romance a big part of the story but not really the main point, I think. Yako and Rasetsu's relationship is really great. They are both independent people but they work well together. The art is really pretty so I think this is a good series to pick up when you have time.

Poor Yakou...

It'd be better if the romantic plot had a bit more comedic subtext because there's a lot you can do with Yakou's whole ridiculous love life.

I mean he falls in love with a ghost in his best friend's girlfriend's body (and almost NTRs her), then that ghost starts living inside him for 7 years, secretly leads him to her direct blood descendant and tries to set them up with each other. Yurara secretly had such a charmingly immature personality in the prequel, it'd be nice if we got some of her perspective, watching her boyfriend fall for, and flirt with a girl that looks exactly like her from inside his body. I'd been hoping for a gag about how Yakou simply likes the hime look. It's really too bad that the manga is constrained by shoujo tropes; I could go for some ghost-in-law (or even bigamy) or some sort of soul merge. Don't even get me started on "arbitrary love triangle"-kun, what a pointless and unconvincing person that guy is. Really fucks with a bunch of the "true love" themes in the manga, seems like his entire purpose was so readers could have someone to fantasize being sexually assaulted by because Yakou is too nice a guy.

I really like Shiomi Chiaki's manga, but I find myself often thinking that'd she could write far better for a seinen demographic. Her stories are really 1 or 2 components away from being really exceptional seinen (borderline josei), instead of what we get which is no more or less an above average shoujo manga. Yukarism is particular could've done very good with some unconventional relationship endings. Actually it's strange how the material in the prequel is avoided (which had even more shoujo tropage) to the degree that Yurara (either of them) don't even get their names stated in this series.

Amazing Series!

I knocked off half a point for some minor plot contradictions (although these may have been mistranslations). On the whole, this series is a gem and one of my all time favorites. The art is gorgeous, the characters are original and the plot is touching and surprisingly deep for a shojo manga. Rasetsu especially was very thoughtful and realistic in her actions.

Yurara no Tsuki was cute, but honestly nothing special, and you don't need to have read it beforehand to appreciate Rastesu, which goes far above and beyond the scope of its predecessor. I just read through Rasetsu for the second time, and both times the ending made me tear up. Give it a try! 🙂

Cool, adorable female lead

Kyaa! Just a few pages into the first volume and I thought I had a glimpse of a female version of the "immortal L" - dunking a month's worth of sugar into coffee. Character wise, manipulative Yakou has finally met his match yet! Also... My overactive imagination was running amok with the subtle undertones of something's-going-on-amongst-the-guys. Alas the story began to get rather predictable after a while...

I liked Yurara for the most part at the beginning, but towards the end i almost banged my head against the wall. So i was a bit concerned when i started reading this one. Thankfully this was a much better execution, with both the ghost cases, overall plot and romance. It kept me interested through all 9 volumes, and it'll be a story that i'll surely re-read in the future.

If you haven't done so already, go buy all the books, they're as cheap as $5 for all volumes except the last 2. It's totally worth it!

Better than the prequel.

I am very reluctant on giving this a 10, but for now, I think it deserves it. It's probably one of the only shoujo (and yes, I am an avid shoujo fan) that I would be willing to buy the entire box set full-price.

But that said, the characters are much less annoying than those in Yurara. The main character has inner strength, but also some insecurities to make her more realistic and hence, more relatable to the reader. However, her insecurities aren't just suddenly appearing-- they're well developed with rational reasoning beside them, despite the fact that the comedy (which, I have to admit, is often somewhat dark) often overshadows them. The characterization in this manga is difficult to see, in other words, but it is there, and masterfully so.
The main guy, Yako, felt almost stereotypical to me, but given the premise of his character, his reactions are well-thought out, and the originality is still there, if only slightly.
I have to admit, one of the greatest points to this manga is the importance of side characters. They each have their own roles in shaping the main characters, as well as their own motives. It's quite obvious to see their purposes, but at least they're not just there, like in most shoujo.

I don't ever write comments for series, but this is one series that I feel very strongly about.

I wasn't particularly in love with the prequel, Yurara, so I was a bit skeptical about reading this sequel. I'm very very very glad I did. Unlike Yurara, Rasetsu is portrayed as a much stronger character and is much less frustrating that Yurara. Even the male protagonists are better characterized.

The storyline is captivating and always keeps you interested. I read the series through the Viz releases and after buying each volume, I was always desperate to get my hands on the next one. I was never bored due to the mystery and many questions Chika Shiomi creates (they're all answered by the end though). Even if the element of the supernatural is predominant, the story becomes strangely realistic in terms of the interactions between the characters. The development of love and relationships is built up realistically and believably, so it doesn't get frustrating or annoying at all, which is surprising for a shoujo manga.

I absolutely love the story progression, and the ending is perfect, but I can't deny that I wish it ended differently. This is one of the only series that had me tearing up (I don't really feel emotional when reading manga) at the end. It's bittersweet, but I wish it was just a little less sad (though, this is just my own preference). I loved the characters and had a personal attachment to them, so as much as the ending made perfect sense, it made me depressed.

Although I didn't feel super happy after finishing this manga, I'm satisfied (though I still want to cry). It's definitely one that any shoujo and non-shoujo fan should read. It doesn't disappoint!

In Love

I'm so in love with this manga. The heroine is awesome, she's strong in the physical sense but weak in the head. Really relatable. The story line is really good! I love the romance and supernatural put together! The art is amazing.
