Description

Kunimi Hiro and his best friend Hideo were baseball wonders... Until Hiro found out his arm was permanently damaged, rendering him unable to play anymore. A frustrated Hiro goes through the trouble of specifically finding a high school with no baseball team... Only to later on find out the doctor who examined him was a quack and his arm is perfectly fine. Hiro is quick to reinstate his dream: Creating a baseball team for his school and getting to face off against Hideo in the Koshien. The number one premier league for high school baseball.

Ambiguous but Amazing Ending

I just finished reading H2 the manga. I have to say that I was confused at the abrupt ending. But after reading Tensai_sakuragi's comment (he's really a tensai), it cleared things up so much (not all, but it helps a lot) and once it does, that when I realised why this series is so good. There is so much subtleties that adds up together at the end, that's what make Adachi such a great mangaka. He definitely fooled me into thinking who should win.

Amazing ending. Author left hints to deduce what happened, but open enough to let our imagination complete it. It was a very very satisfying closure. Like when you just finished putting together a puzzle of your favorite painting.

Although I wish I could see Hiro hold Koga's hand one more time. I'll have to do it in with my imagination. Maybe that's why it's so good, cos I get to envision the way that Hiro express his love to Koga with his little actions and luckily, Koga gets them.

The ending was so deep, and that is why some people don't like it. It is not obvious and it takes a lot of reflection to comprehend. in fact, I wonder if the anime's ending is the same? I don't think the kids are going to get it. They certainly did a poor job in the TV series that I watched some years ago, and that's why I didn't read the manga until recently. Don't waste time on the TV series.

in sum, it was addictive, well developped, thrilling, funny and complete.

uhm... I really really liked this. This manga made me a baseball fan as well... and made me a fan of Adachi's works. 😀 The ending made me feel soo empty. But anyway, I'd recommend it to anyone. 🙂

The ending is more bitter than sweet...

Some like his ending, I dont. He make me investing too much in my favourites, and now he denied me the favoured conclusion....

Of all the Adachi endings, this saddens me the most

Great romance/drama

This series starts very slowly, and will probably lose a few readers in the way. That being said, there's an event near the end that completely took me by surprise. There's a lot of tension/drama, but the series is definitely more focused on the sport itself.

There's also an issue with the pace: very up-and-down, even by Adachi standards. The pace is better than niji-iro and Miyuki, is similar to Touch, but I preferred Katsu! and Rough on the matter.

I'm not sure what to feel of all these "main" characters, I always have this feeling that there's one too many. Then again, maybe that's how Adachi wanted me to feel reading this.

The ending is -or at least seems- to be a tad more complete than the average Adachi ending. The two big questions gets answered, but not much else.

I'm on my fourth (or maybe fifth?) reading of H2 and I'm still catching new things here and there. Adachi MItsuru's works seem to be a hit or miss based on the comments I see around here.I love almost all of his works that I've read, and H2 is my absolute fave, hands down. It's a beautiful story about love and friendship.

His endings usually seem open and incomplete, but if you read carefully, you can spot the main point woven throughout the story. Pay careful attention to the background, scenery, dialogue, and side stories because EVERYTHING adds up in the end. Even from the very first chapter. It's hard to catch on the first reading, so I highly recommend rereading several times. Adachi Mitsuru is a master at this. I also recommend checking out some of the reviews here if you don't quite get it, because they definitely help.

Personally, I'm highly upset that Hiro didn't end up with Hikari. I know, from the beginning, Adachi Mitsuru never intended them to end up together. Hiro grew up too late, as he mentioned over and over again. Yet, still, there was/is this major part of me that still wishes they could be together! There's just so much love and understanding between them that you just can't not want them to be together.
In one of the later chapters, Hiro mentions that the reason Hikari will never choose him even if she wasn't with Hideo is because she loves him (Hiro). And Hideo agreed that it made sense, even if it sounded weird. I think that sentence pretty much defined the Hikari-Hiro relationship. Such a shame, really ): I didn't particularly like Koga's character, either. There was a lot missing from her character development, and the whole time I get the sense that she was just used as a plot device and back-up for Hiro so it doesn't seem like he ended up with nothing in the end...

Lets see, read it in 3 days and don't regret the time i spent. Great series that flowed so smoothly. Would have preferred a different ending, but i can understand the way it ended. Just a little incomplete, but nonetheless, worth the read...

... the end just seems vague, but if you read between the lines, the whole storie shows that Hiro moved on his first crush, and is playing the villain to his best friends benefit (Hideo and Hikari). It got clear that he has moved on when he tells Koga 'I love you', don't you think? And further, that she (Koga) has to live a long life, and become a stewardess, and so on...
Its a very good read with lots of fun between action and a tiny drama. I found this to be better than other baseball manga of the author.

Epic Adachi

H2 is simply an epic series by Adachi.
What I generally like about Adachi sport manga's (except katsu) is that the MC is already skilled and experienced but still improves gradually unlike most shounen sport manga's.

The 2 factors that make this series stand out among other Adachi series are:
A larger more defined cast. Most of Adachi's baseball manga depict only a few team players that actually have distinct personalities and abilities. H2 has a lot more. This results in a Well defined cast and adds more authenticity to this story.
The second factor is the complicated love square between the characters especially the rich history between Hiro, Hideo and Hikari all leading to unpredictability as to how things will add up.
The other thing I like about the manga is that the baseball team itself is probably the best team in an Adachi baseball manga. They have the best speed and athleticism in the series and also manage to win a title.

Btw, about Hikari crying......

Guys, tell me when will ya be in awe: "A guy u aren't expecting to win (Hiro): wins or The person whom u cant think can lose (Hideo): wins?"

and Ofcourse she loved him (tender love for best childhood friend), so her eyes gave in for him.

Only time she cried for Hideo was when He lost! (those last tears were for him! not for Hiro)....

Welll and all other thing is Adachi's great story-telling and your own views.

This manga MADE me a baseball fan. So good! And yeah, I wanted it to end a different way, but I'm glad it didn't. This is my second-favorite manga ever.
