Know anythin in that vein?
Anythin that has sorta the spirit that those manga have.
So, u know, a european... motif(?) is by no means necessary.
Semi-sc-fi works (so like modern day but with stuff we don't know about, like most sci-fi shows that aren't THAT hardcore sf)

pretty much anything like them would be good. Its not like i dont like other series, but its good to have some focus, u know.

Mushishi, it's a bit more slow-paced than the other manga mentioned, but if you're open-minded enough you'll enjoy it.

Mushishi is absolutely nothing like Berzerk imo. They are polar opposites in mood and levels of wrongness and amount of blood or other body fluids.
Both ace in their own way though, and Mushishi can be bloody disturbing when it wants to be, but it never rapes your eyes like Berzerk does...

Havent read Claymore or Gantz but seen some of the anime for both, and Mushishi is nothing like them either. Just to warn you..

And yeah, Im with you in the never having found anything in the medieval fantasy genre that compares to Berzerk, but Vinland Saga rocks. Historical not fantasy (no eclipses so far anyway), but quite dark and badass and very well drawn. Plus it has vikings..

I'm not so sure about how i can mix the feeling of Gantz with Claymore and Berserk, which are quite different in my sense, but i do read all three.

my suggestions-

  • I second Vinland Saga for a battlefield feel akin to the band of the hawks days of berserk.
  • Jackals - bloody, kick ass sword, lol.
  • Guyver - this is sci fi, but i'll put it up here cause you'll probably like this if you like Gantz, Claymore and Berserk. This has human transformations as well.
  • Zetman - same reason as Guyver
  • Battle Angel Alita - This one is an epic, and you won't wanna miss this.
  • Blame/Biomega - Both are really good scifi mangas.

Justification for groupin Gantz w/ Berserk: its not really the plot im talkin bout here... its more the way theyre told, i guess. they all sorta um, deal with death in the same way, and the plot sorta have the same feel. I essentially enjoyed these manga in the same way, one different from ecchi or fighting or lighter fantasy manga like fma.

also, i kinda feel that berserk is also horror, as is claymore to a MILD degree and that gantz is indeed fantasy (i mean come on- most good sci-fi is pretty grounded, and while gantz IS good...)- or at least, sci-fantasy or lite sci-fi

maybe not, I dunno

Sci Fi/Horror != dark fantasy.

It is in my world 😀 . The horror titles i picked like The Drifting Classroom takes place in a differnt world (or the same one) that has pretty much gone to shit or is getting rather twisted, like in the Drifting Classroom for one, the school was teleported to this dark barren world were almost everything has been turned to sand and no other living humans. Its dark, and its my kinda fantasy, so its worth trowing in for the hell of it (not like its going to hurt anybody). And stuff like the Guyver are Sci Fi series with monsters in them, so its not like some kinda Sci Fi series like To Terra... or anything, so it should kinda count :/ .

damn i like this thread.
Even though is comedy, i would propose the manga bastard because i think this is a hell of dark fantasy and a good one.

Gantz is sci-fi/horror through and through. I must have missed the fantasy Gantz. 🙂
