I don't really like to read books too much. I would much rather play a video game, read a manga, watch television/anime, read the daily paper, or sleep. The only books I find myself addicted to are set in the fantasy genre that hook someone really early. I love Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings.

I like frustratedguy's style. I too am mainly a sci-fi fantasy reader so I second his choices.
Piers Anthony, Robert Asprin, and Terry Pratchett are good, funny reads. They don't take themselves too seriously, especially Piers Anthony's Xanth series.
A couple additions of myown would include: Terry Goodkind (Sword of Truth series) and George R. R. Martin (Song of Ice & Fire series)
As for western comics, only thing I can think of off the top of my head is "The Walking Dead".
Stay away from Robert Jordan (Wheel of Time) if you like the story feature called CHARACTER DEVELPOMENT. (IMHO)
Thanks, I'm glad someone likes some of the same authors I do. My favorite Piers Anthony book happens to be Killobyte though, and I've only read the "phule" series from Asprin. I've heard that George R. R. Martin was good, but haven't had a chance to check him out. Guess that's the next author I should read from.
I've never tried reading Robert Jordan because his Wheel of Time seems to be over 10 books all about the same character, and I didn't want to be stuck reading a long series I might not like. I'm not certain, but I think the cover artist for Jordan's books and L.E. Modesitt's books are the same. They certainly have the same style. So although that might not mean anything, I think the authors might have similar styles.

I've been reading books before i even knew that anime and manga existed.
I've always loved to read mystery, humor, horror, but recently my favorite subject has become fantasy. However nowadays i hardly pick up a book due to my life being too busy. between school, and work, i hardly have time to go to my public library and borrow books. I used to during highschool but not anymore. since i'm not such a big buyer, why buy when you can borrow? ^-*
2 series' that i've managed to read over and over again are Harry Potter, and The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich, the latter being so hilarious i was reduced to tears, and on many occasions accidents, such as falling off the couch, or my bed from laughing so hard. ^^
those i could read forever and ever and never get tired of.
I also read stuff like
Eragon
Inkheart
The Abhorsen Trilogy
Snow-Walker
The Immortals Series
Circle of Magic Series
The Blue Girl
The Dreaming Place
i read a lot more than that, but i'm not remembering too much right now. if i think of more i'll post.

Another good one from the young adults books, Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" Trilogy. It was very much like a manga plot.
Sometimes I think the young adult/childrens books are more fun to read than the regular sci-fi/fantasy books.

I don't know what rating those kind of books get, but I'll recommend a classic: 'The Hobbit' and its sequel 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy.

Great books, besides Tolkien was a genius.
The latest books that I have read, not including the Legacy of the Force timeline in the Star Wars novels, were the books Ilium and Olympos. Both of these books are by Dan Simmons and are sci-fi, plus Olympos is the sequal to Ilium. Plus anything that combines Greek mythology with futurific stuff is awesome. His earlier works Hyperion, The Fall of Hyperion, Endymion, and the Rise of Endymion make up the Hyperion Cantos, and include refrences to classic books and authors. The last four books are by far some of the best sci-fi books that I have read.

yep! ^_^
I loved her books, however i kind of lost interest when i started getting too busy. She's a very good author, and really creative. I remember always waiting almost impatiently for her to release a new series or book.
though i remember during my senior year in high school there was a craze about the "Goddess Moon" books. or Goddess books. everywhere i looked people were reading them, and that was one series i never bothered to read.
i have yet to read the sequal to Eragon however, Eldest. everytime i went to my library it was on the reserved list. oh poo! >:-(

I really like Tamora Pierce as well. Ummm.... The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword are good. They're by Robin Mckinley( I think that's how you spell it). There are also books by L.J. Smith if you want something from the horror genre. From a litterary standpoint My Name is Asher Lev, by Chaim Potok, and Jamaica Inn, by Daphne Du Maurier are good.

I like alot of the books I'm reading in my English class, such as: Love Medicine, Beloved, East of Eden, Age of Innocence, and etc. They are all pretty good.

I like reading Fantasy and some Sci Fi, but I haven't read much lately unless its manga. I don't read western comics. I don't really go for classics or stuff I had to read in English classes, but I did like Jane Austin's books and Sherlock Holmes. I liked Tess D'Uberville(sp?) too, not sure why because it was so depressing. I guess I don't go for depressing stuff.
I really loved Anne McCaffrey's Pern Series and I do read Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time. Its too late I have to keep reading them - I started years ago in high school and the first few were fine I thought, but then the story just started getting crazy, but too late I have to finish reading the series (whenever the author actually finishes it).
I also remember reading a book called Flossie and Bossy in like 4th grade that I liked. It would probably be too childish now, but just have a good memory of it. It was about chickens!

I used to read a ton when I was still in elementary school and middle school. I read like 5 books a day (not hard when you're reading those books) and about 600/700 books a year. I don't read that much in high school anymore because I never seem to have the time anymore even though I really do it's just I waste it away. Now, I can barely get through 20 books in a year (manga doesn't count because they're comic books and in my mind comic books aren't real books.) I know I can get through at least 12 books because my book club reads a book a month though I sometimes cheat when I've already read the book (skim). Some authors/books people have mentioned:
The Island of Dr. Moreau (I forgot I read this until that person mentioned it. It was great. Nice and gruesome. The movie didn't quite do the book justice.)
Tamora Pierce books (Trickster's Choice especially/ A lot of manga fans seem to have read her books (looking back on another forum where everyone seems to have read it))
Harry Potter series (I personally don't think they're that great; they're good but not ranked in the top notch.)
The Hobbit (It was a nice book; I was reading it simultaneously with Watership Down so I associate them together a lot, in my mind.)
Angels and Demons/The Da Vinci Code (I liked The Code because I learned some history even if most of it was false.)
The Catcher in the Rye (I don't think Holden is that great but the book is okay.)
That's about all the books that I remember being mentioned. Now for books I've read and liked, just feel like mentioning, or am reading.
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (in Spanish to learn more Spanish)
Harry Potter 1 (French, same reason as Spanish)
Night (great, first book I've liked in a while but not the best book)
Ella Enchanted (The movie was awful, as are most movie adaptions.) I loved this book; my sister lost my copy of it when she lent it to my cousin.
Don Quijote (I've read one sentence. My spanish teacher recommended it. I have the Spanish version so I don't have to deal with any failed translations.)
The Shame of the Cities (it's a series of newspaper articles from the 1900's about "boodling" (bribes/ tips/ politicians' stuff).)
Lurlene McDaniels' books
Cirque Du Freak (I've been reading the last book for months.)
The Keeper (It was cool. It's a recent author. Also, have fun guessing which book I'm talking about; there's more than one book with that same name.)
I basically read books that my sisters had lying around and that they'd picked up from the library when we were younger and I had more time. Some of the reasons I read were to learn more vocab, to waste away the time, learn more about people (I understood a lot more about people than my brother does right now and I say it's because I'd read so many books and since books are from other people's points of views and not mine it's like a way to understand them.), and to escape my life. I used to and still skim through the book, read the ending, then start reading the book. I've been trying to stop doing that for years because it increases the amount of time it takes me to read the book since I reread the ending and the parts I skimmed when I actually sit down and read it. I once got ridiculed for not reading Pride and Prejudice. So, I checked it out from the library, started reading it and realized I had read it, one of my sisters had it lying around for school a few years before the argument. I just didn't remember the title. So, I'm like that other person that reads books in loads. I can basically read and enjoy any book but I prefer boos that aren't aimed at my age level. I always grow tired of books aimed at me because they always seem to be the same story over and over again if you read enough of them. So, I'm tired of Young Adult books and I'm planning on reading some adult classics because people say young people don't know their history, classics have always been at least okay, I need to beat this other kid in my class, and my reading level isn't high enough (my own opinion).
I hope you guys liked my life story. 😀

You know I just realized that one of the books I mentioned in my post a month ago is actually featured in The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi novel and anime.
Actually it was the book that Nagato was reading and then gave to Kyon that had the bookmark telling him to meet her at the park.
Clive Cussler's books are good, he wrote Sahara which the movie was based loosely off of, the whole Dirk Pitt series is good. Another book that I forgot to mention was the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, or Three Kingdoms for short. I remember ordering the 4 volume set my freshman year in high school, which totaled close to 2500 pages, and reading it in like 2 weeks.
