There are a lot of interesting & unusual names in this thread, many of which I sure hope don't ever end up attached to real live people!

I totally agree. They do sound like cool names but when attached to a kid they'd probably get beat up in the sandbox for the most of their childhood.

Hmmm... I do like elegant sounding names for girls. Off the top of my head: Sandrine, Raine, Layla, Maude

For men: Tristan, Gabriel, Vincent, Shane.

And I love my best friend's surname: Taniarashi. Read in kanji it means "valley storm". I think it's a very cool and unique Japanese surname. 😀

Please don't name your female child Maude.

I actually got the name off a victorian-themed novel I just read. 😀

It's also from the show of the same name and the Golden Girls. Anyways, it's a name only attached to older people and that always seems tacky when assigned to younger people. Wait 100 years or so for it to cycle back in.

But that's when they cycle back in. I also refuse to endorse the name Ethel. If you name your kid Ethyl, though, it's all good. And might be cool for a boy, too.

Edit: I'll also allow the alternate spelling Mod, for Maude, if you want to use it.

With all due respect, you seem to be taking my choice in names too seriously. You also sound like you're imposing your own taste on ours, like I need your approval for me to like it.

My great-grandmother and her siblings were: Elba Argyle (female), Zola (female), Thelma (female), Clara (female), and Carol (male!!). Clara & Carol were twins.

The only one of those I'd consider re-using is Zola, but even that's pretty iffy. 🤣

I never said you couldn't like it, but I'm asking you not to name your child as such. If you do I'll personally find your hypothetical child and deride him or her for having an old person's name.

Edit: and TofuQueen, I'd consider using Elba and Zola.

Zola = Awesome name.

Personally, I would want to name my daughter Elva or Trina, but the names I love always change every few years..

3-6: Rainbow, Rose, and Hope were the names I liked.. believe it or not. XD
7-9: Hannah. I was OBSESSED with this name. Whenever I got to name a character or something, Hannah was the name I went with.
9-12: I really liked Ena, Alanna and Suzen..
12 onward: The Current ones. Zola is also on the list.

Liam, Holly, Erica
Evie I think is an awesome old fashioned name.
Casper except I'll never use it because of that stupid ghost. So I named my car Kasper instead (VW = german car = german spelling 😛 )

Jim and Bob. Preferably Jim Bob.

Sooo true. Also Edward (screech), though I prefer Jacob if I had to choose between the two. Carlisle, Yasmine, and Elizabeth too - I just like saying Elizabeth. Lots of syllables. God, I need a life.

Lots of syllables?

How about Loratadine?

I've noticed that no one has brought up the importance of being Earnest. It can be a good name on the right person.
