I'm actually going to guess that the other language he means is Hebrew, as a great many names are derived from Hebrew, rather than Latin or Greek.

Yes, correct. 😀 I looked back at my notes, and it was Hebrew. 😛 Those 4 languages are the pillars of the West-European languages.

And no, not Slavic. 😛 Since that is East-Europe, no? ;D

@Reiketsukan: Isabella is Spanish I guess, not Greek at all 😛

He probably meant Ancient Greek. 😛 Since all West-European names come from Ancient Greek, Latin, German and something else that escapes me right now. 😀

Nope, noope, Spanish is a Latin language and Ancient Greek was a completely separate language from Latin at those times...the Romans borrowed a lot from the Greeks though after they've conquered it. Mostly all West-European traditional names come from German and Latin.
Sorry-I fail at history.

And you probably mean Slavic (or Slavon, stuff like Croatian and Serbian and Czech...I guess...sorry if I'm making any errors 🙂 ) languages right? 😛

""The beautiful one" in Greek (or so ive been told)" lol thats why i put that there cuz i wasnt sure if it was but thanks for the correction and what does it mean in Spanish?

Isabella is the Latinized (but it still sounds more Spanish) form of Isabel I think..http://www.behindthename.com/name/isabel
Last time I checked bella meant beautiful in Spanish...
I guess the "beautiful one" part came from "Is-a-bella"...doesn't make any sense language-wise but oh well 😛

...I fail at history <_<....well thanks anyway for pointing out it was Hebrew 😀 I have a test on Monday anyway (and I don't know a damn thing ;_😉

I love short names like "eva"; "Inga" (my bestfriends name) and Yuuki n___n

and, btw, isn't "Isabella" just the italian version from "Isabel" ?

I like the sound of the names Elisabeth and Michael in English. If we're talking Japanese i like Kei and Yuu.

For girls, I've always like the names Savanah and Georgia (preferably for twins) but I want to name my first daughter Sahara (like the desert). For boys, I like Jason, Matthew, Joshua and Christopher

Ah...please...just don't do it. (>_<) I don't mean to pick on you, but as a parent of twins, they'll have enough to deal with, without having "cutesey, twinny" names.

There are a lot of interesting & unusual names in this thread, many of which I sure hope don't ever end up attached to real live people! 🤣

For boys, I like Nicholas & Alexander but they're so common I didn't use them for my boys (and a good thing, too, since HALF of their preschool class one year was named some variation of Alexander!). I also like the sound of Valentine & Christian for boys, but would never use them because of the meanings/associations. For girls, the only name I really like right now is Marjorie. I just like the sound of it, plus my grandmother had a cousin named Marjorie whom she adored, who died of diabetes (this was in the 1930s-1940s, before there was much awareness of the symptoms).

I actually wanted to rant about how useless this thread is but I found my name here and I kinda mellowed out. Not locked for now 🤣

Anyway, I like how name Shiryu sounds.

I totally agree. They do sound like cool names but when attached to a kid they'd probably get beat up in the sandbox for the most of their childhood.

Hmmm... I do like elegant sounding names for girls. Off the top of my head: Sandrine, Raine, Layla, Maude

For men: Tristan, Gabriel, Vincent, Shane.

And I love my best friend's surname: Taniarashi. Read in kanji it means "valley storm". I think it's a very cool and unique Japanese surname. 😀
