I have a friend who I am 100% SURE has some form of mental retardation and shes fairly pretty... but she had freaking disciples through highschool. 7 different guys would follow her around and valentines day was every stereotypical manga depiction of candy flowing out of lockers.
Since then I've realized men prefer stupid girls. They ask less questions and open their legs quicker. Being her friend and someone who isn't interested in females stupid chicks are wicked fun to toy with and laugh at. smile

Oh wow your a horrid 'friend'
Also you sound a bit jealous of her

LOL Sure I was jealous, never said I wasn't.
More then half the guys I liked groveled at her feet but you know nothing about this girl.
She has tried to drown me, pierce my ears, chased me around with a knife, put me in a wagon without steering and pushed me down a steep hill... what else. She invited me to a sleepover where she laughed as her 'friends' spat in my face, on my pillowcase, on my sleeping bag, and wouldn't let me leave.

I've known her since grade 2 and we are still friends. She laughs when I ask her why I am still friends with her.

But she really is dumb. In grade nine she told my friend she loved her "T- for Toronto necklace"... it was a cross. We all have been in the Catholic school system all our lives. none
She calls ctrl on the keyboard (Circle-tull)
And really the list goes on. I guess we are still friends because she makes me laugh so hard.

Now your a pathetic, jealous 'friend'
Oh and a glutton for punishment
Your reason for continuing to be 'friends' with her makes no sense
So either your lying about something in your little story or you exaggerated most of that stuff

Whoa.
Female friendship is like this sometimes.
I'm surprised you're criticizing kitteh for being loyal and not her friend for being kind of a bitch.
I guess stupid is cute for you.

I don't know how you could deduce that I think stupid is cute from those statements.
Now your coming off as stupid
I'm not on Kitteh's friends side.
I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy in their friendship and I don't what kind of friends you have but friendship doesn't entail constant bullying
My real question is why she would endure all of that humiliation and bullying for what........her friends humor.
What is she being loyal to.......her humor
What she's doing isn't loyalty its stupidity if what she says is true

I've read that the popularity of girls that are childlike idiots in male-oriented media has to do with the status of women in Japan climbing slowly out of traditional subservience and objectification. Men are intimidated by the new, "powerful" woman, and seek solace in the "moe" characters that are comfortably weak and able to be dominated.

Interesting!

Like most people here, I consider stupid people as stupid and not cute. Both girls and boys.
Do these "cute" boys from typical (means: bad) shounen-ai/yaoi who are so dumb and teary eyed you feel the urge to punch them even exist in real life? I very much doubt that...
And if they did, they would definitely NOT be considered cute by anyone with a decent brain.
I like intelligent people and always have. Stupid just doesn't interest me.

As a girl myself : No, they're just plain annoying. Especially in real life when they just sound and look a moron when they act that way.

Some "cute" girls irl have heads full of air under their ten layers of make-up (or not so exaggerated), which is the type of person that irritates me. The only reason a guy would date a girl like that would be because of her looks, or just because she's easy. Other girls that are cute aren't always stupid though.

I guess in shoujo manga, it's the ideal quality of an ordinary high school girl.

>Making "male-oriented manga" synonymous to moe.

>Ignoring Shoujo that is full of ditzy girls AND oriented towards girls.

>Disregarding the fact that Shounen women are more capable than Shoujo women.

If you like it, read it. If you don't, then ignore it?

Some people like foolish, whimsical kinda characters. Others like people who go on endless odysseys to seek vengeance. Then, there are those who like characters within settings that seek to enjoy life as it is, with little to no ambition and who accept things as they are. And others like characters who're chaotic and insane, who will seek to defy logic, fate and everything that comes their way.

Does it actually matter? It's just manga anyways and not something that'd kill you.

As for me, it is fine. I am not averse to these kind of characters as long as the writer manages to make use of them properly. If I do find them annoying, it's because I'm now a different type of person and that sort of thinking/reasoning/etc. probably irks me 'cos the person as I am, can't accept the way they behave.

You obviously don't understand female relationships.
Girls travel in packs... in each pack there is one girl singled out to be picked on. Her sole purpose in the group is to make everyone else feel better. That was me.
We have been friends since grade 2. She was my ONLY friend from grade 2-8.
I mean there were others but they were just as bad.
I have never understood friendships to be anything else but abusive since then.
I was with the same people from grade 2-8 and abandoning her meant having no friends whatsoever.
I only made other friends in high school. And boy, was I surprised how real friends are.
It stems down to loyalty. I'm still loyal to every single one of my friends no matter what.
I don't have it in my heart to actually stay mad at someone if they are nice to me afterward.

As for stupid=cute, I still stand by it.
Naive innocence always wins over the bitch.
Mainly because men instinctively enjoy taking care of women.
Read any womans magazine and you will see the key to keeping your relationship fresh is by asking for the mans help with something.

I think I understand where you are coming from.
I have had a similar experience.
When I was in primary school, I was one of 8 boys in a class of 30 kids. Add to that only one class per grade and no interaction between grades and you have a very limited supply of friends.
Being a kid with an eye defect and you get singled out pretty easily. So I got to be the person the other guys would take their irritation out on.
Difference is, when I went to highschool when I was 12 (here higschool is from 12 to around 18, depending on your level) I cut off all contact with the bastards from those days. Though I still have some trust issues left from their 'friendship'.

More ontopic.
I see your point with the innocent and naive thing, but I don't think all men will enjoy something like that.
I think mostly the a bit less intelligent men will like that. Maybe low to just above average IQ.
Any intelligent man will get annoyed and/or bored by such a person pretty quick. But I guess that only accounts for 20-30% of all men.
I for one will get annoyed quick when a woman asks for help doing stuff she can do perfectly fine herself, like cooking and cleaning.
I kid, I kid.
I want a girl I can have a decent conversation with, argue with and who isn't dependant on anyone.

Pretty much the reason....Although, i think this stereo type of "cute" = "stupid?"is probably because smarter girls will probably prefer to come across as ether suffisticated, mature, tidy or whatever particular style they wish to entail and they will aim for it with good accuracy. (most, not all)

Some stupid girls come across as "cute" sometimes without realisation therefore creating this stereo type that stupid is cute. Only becaue they don't realise it, that it has summed up that cute = stupid.

"Stupid", means alot of things... laugh

"Cute" is just a build of many characteristics just the same way "cool" is. Movement, speach, looks and method of thought make this.

Also, clumsy is cute, for a brief, but very powerful (on opinion), window of time. Stupid is not. No one believes that stupid = cute; they will either be in denial of the person's stupidity, or have not spent much time the that person's company.

Moe girls are cute because they're drawn that way.
