Many of us have them, curtain plot devices that always make us wash our hands clean of a series no matter how much we were enjoying it. Well, I know mine, but I'd like to hear you guys' too.

Okay, well, I have two really that do it for me.

First: The Main Character Swap

I can't take it when, pretty far through the story, the mangaka decides that they're going to legitimately switch the main character, especially when they do it by killing the original one.

Like in Purple Eyes in volume six or seven

I've invested myself in the world and in the characters around the protagonist through his or her perspective and feelings. I just can't do the same after they're gone. The other characters become dead and lifeless to me and the setting becomes redundant.

Second: The Rape Fantasy

I expect a certain... roughness... from the smut category, especially from Josei manga, but I draw the line at "He rapes her and she likes it so they fall in love." Balls to that. I drop these immediately.

That's all I can think of for mine, so post your own, discuss others', whatever. Just keep it light and keep it civil.

Well, those two are pretty common ones.

Could you explain what about them irks you so?

mc swap, same reason you have, and episodic plotline. if the plot doesnt have a running story and it just seems that the author makes things up as they go along and makes these really stupid problems the characters encounter, or the story should have ended at a certain point but they kept it running, i drop it cause it seems like theyve lost the story for the series and is just trying to keep it running

Damsel in distress- one of most annoying thing ever. It shows that woman (or man in some cases) is weakling who needs to be save for whatever reason and the main character does it. Its basically so boring and showing in bad light some characters that i would rather drop manga than read so weak storyline. And for example the Legend of Maian.

Memory loss- there are many different types of memory losses we can read in mangas but not everyone of them is bad. Shounen mangas have basically two types. One of them is when manga is starting with premonition of the memory loss and its ok. We know in which direction manga will be going. But there is another one- bad one- when there is story about something, doesnt matter about what, and there magically the one of main characters loss memory and start fighting with friends or lovers. After they almost kill them they magically gain their memory back- and thats what church calls miracle and i call this bulls**t.
Nevertheless i recently read very original manga with memory loss plot device which really hooked me up and i mean Seishun forget so I'm starting to open up for this kind of plot but for know i hate it.

Usually in shoujo, when the male lead rape/harass the girl but the girl falls for him anyway. Usually the guy is a hot guy while the girl is a plain, typical shoujo heroine. This plot really bore me and usually I drop the series.

MC swap... I think I'll hate it if the MC swap, but strangely I never cross such series. I've read manga with multiple characters (like Honey and Clover) and I'm fine with that. I think it's odd if the author swap the MC, is there such manga?

situation where a character that is in love with the main character, but is having sex with other people despite that. I guess a good example would be air gear.
I also don't really like sex in manga, mostly depending on the genre or if I start reading while knowing it might have sex in it.

As you guys have said, the fall in love with the rapist is extremely disgusting in a manga.

Another one I really dislike is when a character, portrayed as a strong lead, became all weak and blushes like there's no freaking tomorrow when she started having feelings to the main guy. I really get where it's coming from, but too much of it really annoys me. Best example I can give is Kaichou wa Maid-sama. She's totally gross. Where the heck did the Demon SC President go?! And all those crap the author wrote that made her emotionally strong? Jesus. Couldn't take that crap.

In ANY manga, where a friend or best friend of the main character just enigmatically betray the main character for whatever reason. In shoujo it could be because they like the same guy or whatever, or because of God knows whatever reason. In shounen it's probably because of family, revenge, or some other stuff like that.

It's just like... You're reading a volume long on how strong their friendship are, and then WHAM wha- what just happened? Are you confused, main character? Because I am.

Example, Fushigi Yuugi and Naruto. There are loads more, believe me.
