Mac VS PC

Most people use Microcrap Windows because they don't know what Linux/MacOS can do for them. Used in isolation, they may think Windows is all they ever need. Same theory as to why fat chicks continue to get pregnant.
But for PC gaming, windoze is the only option, I admit.... but I prefer consoles, anyway.
BTW.... I contribute to Debian and the Gnome project, so I'm Biased towards Linux, but Microcrap still sucks either way . Using windows is like having sex with a HIV+ person.

On problem with viruses is that there are about four of them out for Macs, and they all destroy your computer. Plus, if a hacker tried to hack into your computer, it's easier to compromise a Mac than a Windows.
Total bullshit. You're probably referring to the recent 'pwn2own' hacker competition where the Macbook Air got hacked first, rite. Well, did you know that Microcrap was the main sponsor of the event. Besides, the person got to keep the laptop that he/she hacked.... which means everyone would target the Macbook Air over the stupid Wintel box anyway. Unix and it's derivatives are far more secure than anything Microcrap can think of....period. Wondertwin Powers Activate! In form of.... troll!
🙄
Probably didn't do that right. If you wanted people to take your views seriously, you should learn to spell better.

Basically I don't find much different in Windows and Mac because they are both companies out to get money regardless of the experience that their end users have to endure.
Some linux distro's don't care about end users either. Until the ubuntus came around most distro's were rather frightening to the general public for various reasons, 'specially the steeper learning curve. Plus, the most successful/used linux's (Ubuntu and RHEL) have corporate backing, and that mac you so hate is based on BSD. Most of the big free/open source projects also have corporate backing, 'cause everything takes cash.
shrugs Some things also just don't work on linux-I occassionally gotta use visual studio in a comp sci class, engineering and architect software often only works on windows, and I know those aren't the only fields. So while going purely opensource can be idealistically preferable (and the reasons for doing a FOSS project are very varied-Facebook opened up their API primarily to make money) sometimes it just isn't feasible.

i like pcs better, but i find that macs are a lot easier to deal with in programs like adobe (illustrator, indesign, photoshop, dreamweaver, flash, etc.) and their other software isnt too bad. but i'd still rather have a windows, since it's more of the default for online computer games. but vista is crap.

Oi silent killer,
What did I spell wrong?? Isn't Microcrap spelled like that?
I sense you're angry.... which probably means you're fat.
Different operating systems and their uses:
Linux/BSD - Nearly everything except gaming and more media related stuff (movie production...etc). Nerdy stuff. Security.
MacOS - Image editing, design work, movie production, Pro Tools, NASA... etc
Windows - Collecting malware, collecting spyware, collecting viruses, gaming and surfing porn.

Real nerds use Plan 9 😉 (Actually, most nerds have multiple OSs 'cause they know different ones are good for different things)
NASA also uses linux and windows (dude, most engineering software only works on windows), and lots of coders work on windows 'cause they're coding for windows or just 'cause most of the linux IDE's are lousy. To code a window's app, you'll probably need to play in the .NET enviro at least a bit, and well that just doesn't work outside of windows,
Then there's using linux for the server and having all sorts of computers on the network (any reasonably sized university probably has a linux backend and pc/mac/unix labs).

Linux can run lots of games with the help of wine.

well, I wouldn't say I'm angry. I'm just tired of stupid fanboys. Hype whatever you like, but dumping on its rival is just immature and adds nothing to a conversation. This thread was going really well, until you came in and started spouting your ignorance.

Before this thread derails uncontrollably...
This is nothing but my personal opinion, even if I DO think my opinion is probably a very "enlightened" one it still is just an opinion among others.
So we have Mac OS, Windows, and Linux as contestants right?
So let's see what each one has to offer:
Mac OS :
Not free, doesn't run on anything but a very expensive Mac "pc" that actually sucks at least for that price. (although I did hear of "hacked" version out there...) BUT by developing for a very specific hardware configuration... it certainly isn't surprising to see it suffer less from failures, which is a plus.
Is closed source, (even though it used open source elements as it base... which is pretty messed up imo)
I'm not going to mention image editing or video or anything because you can basically do just as well on almost all platform (except linux... but that's a con for linux)
Probably a more "fool proof" interface than both other Operating systems. Very beginner friendly in a way.
Lacks a lot on the gaming department... what else did I forget?
Better security than windows... Mostly because of the lack of incentive for hackers to target it thought... If you're making a virus, might as well make it so it damages 95% of the computers of the world no?
Windows:
Isn't free either, pretty expensive actually. Runs on almost all kinds of computers.
Is closed source, the platform for which the most of the software worldwide is targeted (not because of sheer love for Microsoft thought... mostly because if you're making something might as well make it work for 95% of the market)
But that also works for viruses, and other malware sadly.
Games are software... so 95% of them are windows exclusive.
Instable at times, specially before the release of their Service Packs...
Linux:
FREE,
Open Source,
Could be made to run on almost anything with a processor.
Security wise, again, it's just a matter of lacking focus IMO, and in the end, there is no perfect software security wise anyway.
Bad for gaming, and will probably always be (unless it gets backed up by ATI for some mysterious reason... like the death of all other operating systems).
Bad for beginners, even thought the interface got a lot better now than what it was 10 years ago... you still can't totally avoid the command prompt.
Well there is no perfect Operating System, but even if there was one, it certainly wouldn't be Mac OS IMO...
I may sound like a Windows or Linux fanboy at some points, but I'm neither... I'm actually just a Mac hater. Why? I just hate their marketing schemes, and their corporate policy (even more than Microsoft's).

I take back what I said about not dumping on other systems. After reading Stealth's post it made me remember that hating is alright. If you don't go being a douche about it, that is. 😮
