And I certainly don't dislike all shoujo ('ll name a couple I like at the end of this post), its just harder to find ones with art styles I like than it seems to be for other genres.

I think that's largely a side effect of shounen's popularity. More shounen gets translated so more fans develop a taste for more diverse art styles in shounen so more diverse series get translated so.... You get the idea. Shoujo art does vary a lot if you look at all series published in Japanese, but only a couple of sub-genres are popular in the US and a lot of other places outside of Japan, so it tends to seem more uniform to us. Also, these days, it's pretty common for girls to read shounen and for female artists to draw it, so women who like a more "shounen" style, tend to gravitate to those magazines instead of making shoujo magazines more shounen in style.

As for the cup size thing, a Japanese "D" could be anywhere between a small B and a C in US sizing. The translation was probably quite direct and literal, but unfortunately, that's kind of misleading unless you know a lot about Japanese lingerie.

Ladies' comics (i.e. porn for adult women) often feature bigger breasts, but you can also see the women's breasts because they'll often be wearing sexy eveningwear or lingerie or nothing at all. Like someone else said, skinny teenage girls wearing the style of school uniform that shows up a lot in shoujo would--in real life--appear to have completely flat chests. The only reason people think otherwise is that the same type of uniform tends to be drawn in a wildly unrealistic way for fetish value. (If you look at the naughty costume versions of the same thing, you'll find they're made out of much thinner material and totally the wrong type of fiber to give a more form-fitting look.) If you can find a scene of a standard shoujo heroine in her underwear or a sundress or something, she'll have boobs, even in those series where everyone looks flat as a board most of the time.

I don't know why but when I see the shoujo w/ a big tit in S+M I feel awkward.
We have already been so familiar w/ no chest shoujo girl, so I guess no nobody care about drawing it anymore. 😐

Because shoujo focus on the hearth and not the body....... well I do prefer a girl with hearth (feelings and that stuff) over the body (the boobs, the a***s stuff), but if it comes with it also, its a win win 😛

Just the title of the thread makes me sick. I'd rather see a "a chick with no tits" than the sickening balloon breasted girls in shounen. Nelliel in the Bleach manga (at least one of the covers for it, since that's all I've seen) looks like she's straight out of a hentai. It's disgusting, as if Matsumoto and Orihime weren't bad enough. And I love Bleach (like hentai too, actually). And I'd have to say the majority of women, particularly Asian women, have smaller chests, so of course that's what would be in the majority of shoujo manga. I've still seen a lot of shoujo with larger chests, which some girls have and some girls want to see, and that's okay too. But torpedo chests are just disturbing.

i think it's because most girls wouldnt want to see/read about girls with gigantic boobs floppin around(like you see in ecchi and hentai manga), you know it supposed to aimed torward girls not guys... so seeing stuff like that would probably be a turn off..

I second the person above me. It wouldn't appeal to their target audience as much if a girl had watermelons.

Because girls are reading shoujo? If the girls were flat-chested, maybe the readers would find it easier to identify with the character? 😕

Believe it or not, real-life girls aren't built like shounen manga heroines, especially not Japanese girls. Now, that's not to say that the stick-thin figures of shoujo manga are realistic, but from the chest standpoint they're more true to life. They're both idealized, extremely stylized depictions of what a girl looks like, and both are only attractive to serious weirdoes.

for the same reason all shounen males are losers and uninteresting in chapter 1.

I agree with sweetnsour321

I don't like female characters with big breasts. =.= Sometimes it's kind of exaggerated in some shounen (which usually comes along with the ecchi tag) mangas and perhaps shoujo (+smut?) mangas. Eg. An average girl, with an Extremely huge breasts?

It just doesn't look proportionally right.
Or Perhaps it's because I had gotten used to reading shoujo manga..

🤣

Mmm the reason is simple yet very rude and discriminating, lets reflect upon:

Girls with big tits get the boys = no time for manga whatsoever, too busy dating
Girls with no tits = manga time's plenty, so mangakas draw heroines/chars the most similar to the readers base.

Simple as this, imho: very generic, very efficient.

Ok at my 3 throw the rocks.

Shoujo: Girls are kept frail and skinny so that female readers won't feel inadequate.
Shounen: Girls often hypersexualized to satisfy the impossible fantasies of male readers.

In the end, they just address two different kinds of inferiority complexes.

yes but the thing about shoujo is, the body frames are usualy wrong. <---very contreversial line but i will explain why. THERE are exceptions don't get me wrong but i speak of majority.

the body poses lack movement most of the time, alot of the mesurements for the body (i.e the universal head measurement) seems to be off balance. Alot of these people have girly shoulders you may not see it but i do, sorry. everyone has the same SHAPED shoulders just vary in wideness...they need to vary in shape not just wieth. But this seems to work for the majority of the women population. how can i always tell its a shoujo? rediculously long male leads what like 7-9 foots either that or goblin girls? no muscle tone whatsoever, yes even for girls, even if a girl is flat chested she deserves shape. they just need to be more diverse in the way they depict people.

why? because of the simplicity of the pages and the little frifly dye they have over the pages im not sure what it is but it reminds me of glitter or something...so basiacaly the charoctors are not drawn as well but the readers are compeld by the superfical stuff, the presentation is what gets them to think its drawn properly.

and not every shonen has all the women big breasted, just maybe one random girl for the exception that it is a shonen. unless u speak of echi?

that sounds harsh but open your eyes

I believe in letting people do as they wish, as do I myself. Sometimes, of course, what I wish to do is kill them and they do not wish to die. This gives life interest.

I'm more interested in why they have no nipples...
Simple censoring?
Other pointless things?
Boo~

Anyways...
Why? I don't know.
I don't think I've noticed much, especially since I don't read a lot of shoujo.
That probably has to do with the fact that if a busty chick gets the guy in the manga, it will leave no room for fantasy.
I mean, most shoujo is read by its demographic audience.
Girls don't want to see the hot girlishly girl get the super cool guy.
Apparently - it sells.

And I honestly doubt guys who read those titles read them for different reasons. ;p
