To me, it feels more like it got quite difficult to entertain me with manga.
Too much repetition, too many cheap jokes and lame characters...seriously, I have no intention to let myself be bored by stuff I have seen before.
I thus became more selective about the manga I want to spend my time on.
This could falsely be interpreted as closed-minded, but I do peek into genres and mangas I have not paid any attention to before. (for example: I tried hentai out of curiosity and some was not so terrible!)
I simply need a better reason than plain boredom. Means interest!

If anything I'm reading more manga from different genres than I did 10 years ago. I'm becoming more open-minded, I think.

I agree I have become quite close minded with manga, not so much novels. I started off with death note and then I realized there were manga's for girl 'shoujo' and I just remember loving all the shoujo manga's out there but now I just think thier dumb and so cliche. Don't get me wrong there are good shoujo mangas out there just not many. I have a new approach to manga, if I don't like the first chapter then I will not read it.

Hmm... I haven't become more closed minded. i grew up and asked myself why things were considered socially unnacceptable/evil, and when i couldnt answer why they were i just tried it.That means i read guro.

Although i guess you could say that i've narrowed down what i will/wont read/i know better about what i like. for example i wont read shotacon hentai/yaoi at all because of my horrible experiences with it and the fact that it seems like the boy is just a crying pansy with a male sex organ.

Imo the older readers are more open-minded. Personally I have always liked BL themes but I'm sure I'd be more blush-blush if I have read before 10 years the things I read now.

Quote from Hito-Shura

Yes, I used to love Harem, Ecchi, all kinds of hentai and used to read all genre except for Yaoi.

Now I hate harem and like ecchi but not too much and hentai I usually stick to oneshots and became too picky in reading manga or watching anime.

Example Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou I probably would have loved it a couple of years ago but now I dropped it at chapter 2.

I noticed with the time I started to prefer oneshots and/or the shorter titles. I think the age makes the mind willing to read things in a smaller "portions". I feel the same towards the novels, when I was in my 20s I liked to read long novels. Now I prefer short books and stories.

I'm not sure about that...I think it depends on the person.
I know I've become a person who is hard to please when reading a manga, I mean if you read so many series that you try to find one you haven't come across yet and that pleases you.. I may not enjoy a certain manga yet I'll still read it to the end unless it is horrendous. maybe more experienced manga readers have more standards to manga that they read(?)

I hear you say "Why?" Always "Why?" You see things; and you say "Why?" But I dream things that never were; and I say "Why not?"

isn´t it normal to avoid things you don´t like?
at the beginning you don´t really know and look here and there, but when you get more expierenced you find out what you like or not and concentrate yourself on this sections while avoiding those which you don´t like.
When i speak for myself, i just read everything that seems kinda interesting and only avoid yuri and shoujo-ai

I'm growing more openminded every day, though it is true that my mind has closed for certain genres I used to read. I just don't enjoy certain types as much anymore, so it's not that my mind is fully closed off. I kept giving them a chance until I realised they weren't for me anymore.
So the thread's title is a rather black and white statement.

Sometimes I think I am growing closed minded, but recently I've started like shoujo manga again.

I think people are in constant change, but sometimes they're in a cycle as well.

But you can't blame people for not liking whatever other people feel is open minded though.

Well, eventually you'll find yourself in possession of a reading list that is simply far too long.

It hasn't been anywhere near 10 years for me, but I too am more open to certain types of manga now than when I first started reading.

When I first started I refused to read any romance manga (that weren't ecchi) or any Shoujo/Josei manga. But now I've ready (and enjoyed) many like that. Basically the only thing I won't read is Yaoi and Shounen Ai. I'm not overly keen on Yuri or Shoujo Ai either, Aoi Hana being the only such one that I like. Haru yo, Koi also has Yuri as a genre, but it wasn't really central to the story except for the first few chapters.

I also hate Netorare and Abandonment scenario mangas, but can't seem to stop reading them. Maybe I'm a Sadist.

I know that feeling. My current reading list, which includes both manga I'm reading and trying to keep up-to-date with, and manga that I intend to read (and are either completed or being actively scanlated) is almost 750 titles long. My Completed List alone is over 200 titles long.

Rather than considering myself close minded, I like to think that I'm just more in tune with my tastes and how they've changed. When I started out, I'd read just about anything I could get my hands on. Predictably, I enjoyed some series, and others made me wonder why I wasted my time. Nowadays, I'm a bit more choosy and try to read things I'm reasonably certain I'll like. It doesn't necessarily mean I'll completely shun other genres.

This.
There are certain genres I like, certain genres I really like and certain genres I just...don't.

Older readers are more closed minded in regards to what they read manga-wise, generally.

**Older readers only read what they enjoy reading and automatically shut themselves off from the stuff they don't enjoy. **
I don't know if this is really true. In my experiences, from comparing the now me to when I was still a teens, I now read far more genres than when I first started. however being one who is feeling the onset of age, I don't want to presume that I'm becoming more open minded. In fact, maybe I'm only open-minded in the one medium, manga. (I wouldn't touch an American comic for instance).

If I am indeed becoming more closed minded, I feel that is a bad thing. It means I will end up only being able to enjoy one set of what manga has to offer. I don't know how to read the seinen manga with lots of amazing art and violence and serious themes for example.

Are you becoming more closed-minded as you age?

for me it is not about open or closed minded it is simply about quality of story and art though i can live with only decent art with a goo story but i will not read the american graphic novels becauseit is normally poor imitation of the art style and i have not found a good story out of the ones i tried though i do like manhwa

I have become no more or less picky about what I READ over the years, but I'm often hard-pressed to find ones that I enjoy. My list of manga that I have read is huge, but my list of ones that I sincerely enjoyed and found nigh-flawless is a much shorter list indeed. I am open to a good plot, story and characters in any genre, but I try to shy away from the explicit stuff. It usually doesn't have much in the way of plot and character development.
