I think I just got afraid of being frustrated, I don't take risks anymore, before I would think:
"Oh...This is shoujo but maybe it will be good." Dissapointed
"Oh...This is Tragedy but maybe it will not be so sad" Dissapointed
"Oh...This is a Gender Bender but maybe it has a plot" Dissapointed
I know that out there there are shoujos, tragedies, gender benders I would enjoy but I'm not willing anymore to search for the good ones.

Im 38 closer to 39 these days
and I actually try all genres of manga/manwha
I do have some series I stay away from but thats after I actually read them,
but from a complete genre.... just a handful come to mind,
and yes I have read them out of curiosity, and wish I hadn't (sick people out there) 🤢

I have become more open minded as I've aged and my career progressed. When writing and art are your living, you have to be - or it ends real quick. These days, I'm writing in a genre that 20 years ago I said there would be "no way in hell". All in the name of progression............

Maybe the manga plot no longer suffice. There comes a time when everyone wants something more and sometimes manga just can't achieve that kind of sophisticated description. I know it's true for me that I moved from manga, particularly BL section to gay themed novels instead.

It's obvious. I think for a younger auditory all manga is a new experience positive or not. But for a older ppl( i'm 24 now, and a start watching anime around 20 and reading manga at 22) you usually tend to watch or read thing what you like, suit your taste, and entertain you, rather than read them just to kill time. For example, if i read manga to improve my mood i have absolutely no reason to read depressing things. And younger auditory forget depressing and bad moment faster, or it's just me,over-thinking about bad moments too much?

"why spend time do something you don't enjoy?" that's my thought on it.
i am still a manga addict. but now, every manga i read must passed multiple level of selection.
the bottom line is, if i am not kept impressed within one or two volumes, why continue?
through my over-decade of reading manga, i have touched everything but one. and evaluating my current taste, i agree it is safe to say we old people quite content my our current taste.
grammar mistake is intentional, grammar nazis need their entertainment.

anyway... im in tuned with what i like...
if you know you will hate it why bother?
i know ive dropped several series after a certain point because i didnt like it anymore
besides... why read something that is just so much like another story?
cliches are way too aplenty and not really worth the time

No! i don't think that's being close-minded. it's just that you like this, and you don't want that. as we grow older our tastes differ. shoujo-josei, shounen-seinen from comedy-horror, maybe 😀 that's what genres are for 🙂
as you read along, you'll have different and wider perspective too. like me, at first i only read shoujos. then it extended to josei. i've also read some seinen and now even yaoi, i hated so much before. (but truthfully that's just a part of it. i just read those because of the lack of shoujo supply 😀 )

same problem. because of a manhwa, that had a very bad art, i've tried to read, i avoided all manhwas, chinese, korean, whatsoever, even if it has high ranks (that's bad. i know 🙁 ) but because of the one and suggestions in different forums, i now do read 'em. just not the ones with names that are very hard to read 🤣
It means I will end up only being able to enjoy one set of what manga has to offer. I don't know how to read the seinen manga with lots of amazing art and violence and serious themes for example.
i think being close-minded is more like what i thought of manhwas before. yours, is just individuality. having a different taste, wanting a different genre. not bad at all 😀

I'm young, I started reading only a few years ago (2-3, I think), and I'm as picky as possible. I think it's more about how quickly you get bored of cliches, and find the 'type' of manga that appeals to you.
I still try to experiment every once in a while, though.
There are times when you will miss what you never had. I wonder how you will find what you so desperately need.

i am 23 so a guess i am old? hahaha i´ve been reading for about 6 and a half years and i´ve lost count of how much manga i´ve read. and i actually believe that i´ve become even more open minded.
at first i read shonen and shoujo and that was it... but i guess that wasn´t enough i tried many more genres and a couple of months ago i started reading shoujo-ai if the me two years ago heard this would probably freaked out xD i guess in my case it´s all about interesting plots and the younger me wasn´t mature enough to experience new things so in my case is "younger readers are close minded"

I agree with sisa, it's not really close minded but our tastes differ as we grow older and we realize that the older releases we have read doesn't fit in our current interest. Well, for me, that's how it is.
