Forgive the rant. Recovering from a bottle of Blue Label. Gotta love rich people weddings.

So far I've seen CCTV, CBC, BBC and some South American coverage of the opening ceremony on Youtube and already I see them covering the Olympics better than NBC in the U.S. They have less inane chatter, better camera angles and actual live footage of the ceremony.

Meanwhile I get to look forward to taped coverage falsely advertised as live, blocked access to rival streaming media coverage from the BBC, CBC, etc.. and human interest pieces talking about athlete A got screwed, cried and then got better. NBC blows.

So my question: how's the coverage where you're at? If you can compare it to NBC's all the better.

Is it just me or does anyone else think the Beijing "Bird's Nest" Olympic stadium looks like a toilet bowl? (especially from the top it looks just like one)

Now that you mention it, it does look kinda like one at night. A giant toilet bowl that shoots fire up people's asses. laugh

I wouldn't be so annoyed if it wasn't for the damned media blackout. Seemed every other country was streaming their stuff everywhere except to the U.S. Worse than than a mosaic covered by black bars covering sweet sweet hentai.

Australian coverage...covers Australian games only (or so I've noticed so far) -_-" I wanna watch the other sport ffs! I wanna watch the martial arts and stuff, and I dont think they have teams in those sports TT_TT

On a side note, the opening ceremony....was freakin amazing. The tile blocks blew me away. I was seriously thinking that it was some sort of machine (since it's the chinese)...until people popped out of them at the end eek That should've take one helluva coordination...and considering that it is the chinese, I shouldn't be surprised laugh...but I am! eek It started airing at 10pm though...It was hard trying to stay awake. I switched channels now and then (The Phantom Manace was on biggrin) but lathargy caught up with me. I stopped watching after the American team finally came out (with a freakin army, might I add)

Winter is worse for me. Too much figure skating and such. The only winter game I like is Hockey.

And curling. smile

@Scyfon

The torch lighting was great, at least on youtube. Half the time, NBC was busy showing Yao Ming and Kobe Bryant instead of the torch bearer. When they did show the guy, the timing and angles were all messed up. They even fubarred the damned lighting of the flame.

@ahoaho
Never watched the winter olympics. Every time it's on, there only seems to be skating. I always wanted to see the skiing/shooting biathlon. Never seem to be able to catch that damned event though.

Yeah, it was awesome! I was unsure at first if there were really people under the blocks but since I've seen other clips showing how chinese can be sooo coordinated it didn't seem impossible.

Another highlight was that time when dancers were drawing while dancing and all the time I was like "Jesus, that is beautiful!" Well, I didn't like how the drawing turned out but the way they did it was beautiful.

The torch lighting was okay. I was distracted by the fact that the torch lighter was sometimes running before the "path" unfolded...

I'm not really interested on most of the games though.

I found the beginning the most entertaining. After the drumming and the soldiers marching with the kids, I was half expecting them to roll in tanks and ICBMs though the stadium. laugh

As Russia just happened to right next to my country it's really hard to miss these kinds of news. And it really is so that first watch news for more info what's happening in Georgia and only then maybe I would check opening ceremony.
