I couldn't care for the Olympics. The only thing I'd watch it for is the awesome opening animared by Jamie Hewlett (Gorillaz).

Yeah... that was pretty pukka.... and some of the other performances were great as well....
but I'm not too sure about the fireworks... doesn't China already have a major smog problem..... I was watching the cycling event earlier, and many of the riders had trouble breathing and had to pull out.

Aywayz... best of luck to them, but I'm currently more concerned about the problems in Georgia.

To all people who brings politics into Olympics and try to ruin the Olympics mood, I have a message for you, listen very closely: "Get the F$CK out". I'm serious, I don't care about China's political issues, they did a good job at the Olympics ceremony, and now we will all turn our focus to the Sport itself.

This. Srsly GTFO. The Olympics is in a way, the pinnacle of modern international relations. People from every nation in the world line up in the blocks, one person wins, and no one gets mad about someone being better than the other. Instead, they feel honored just to be on that stage itself. That's what the Olympics is. An honor, whether you win or not.

Exactly! And to think that some knave is out there picking on everyone's bad points and spreading bad things.

whoa whoa whoa, wait am I hearing this correctly? You mean I, a person who never exercised more than 2 hours everyday is not having trouble breathing when I went to Beijing while these "trained" athlete who are probably the strongest people on Earth is bothered by a little smoke? Wow......

Hey, that's what the cyclists were saying on the news interviews.... I'm just as stumped as you, to be honest..... Even the winner of last year's Tour De France, considered to be the most physically challenging even on the planet, had to pull out.... the strange thing is that a Spanish guy with little experience at the top level won.

BTW... the fireworks thing was a joke, in case you didn't realize.... they really were very beautiful.

From what I have read it was more attributed to the heat and humidty... I was reading the quotes from the cyclists that dropped and the majority simply said the humidity and heat made it a lot harder than usual. The only quote that complained about the smog making it hard to breath was a guy who was one of the favourites to win... figures 🙄

the bad air wont have any effect on those athlete, but so far as I know in south east asia there are some cases of traffic police officers are having lungs problem after being on duty for decades.

That's more due to the amount of 2-stroke moped fumes floating around their faces.... 😀 Nasty stuff, that.

Is it me or are these athletes getting too picky and weak? I mean, if I was an athlete of the Olympics, I certainly would not let a little smoke disturb me. Nor would I advertise the fact that I feel insecure about my abilities by wearing masks when no one else are and justifying it with "I'm just trying to grab every opportunities i can get to win". I'm pretty sure if you are confident enough in your own abilities, 20 minutes outside breathing normal people's air wouldn't kill you. I thought athlete are all manly and stuff.....

I'm curious, for the people who thought this year's Olympics sucked, why? can you tell me the reason? If it's political, then it's not a reason. If it's racial issues, then it's also not a reason. If you don't know what you are talking about, then it's also not a reason

Also, did anyone hear about that Leakage video some Korean person did?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Summer_Olympics_Opening_Ceremony#Rehearsal_leakage
Why, who would do such a terrible thing?

The poll isn't about whether the Olympics sucks or not. It's about how good the coverage in your area was.

Also on the note of the masks worn by some American competitors I am not sure if they were misinformed or just trying to be assholes. The level that Beijing is at in the API is below the danger level which is 100 and their at 87. This "danger" only applies to people living in the area for a long period time i.e. Years.

So these athletes that are acting like just being in Beijing is a health risk, they should not have come in the first place and I don't think the Olympics needs competitors like that.... 🙄

They could have even had nice discrete with white masks but no lets go for the shredder look 😛

Ohhh, wow, I really made a fool out of myself this time by not reading the description. Hmm.....that gives me an idea......Oh well, I still had two more worth questions in that comment 😢 God now I feel like a total idiot.

i think the coverage in my area was pretty fine ^^ considering the fact only channel 1 covers it, and some of it was due to the generosity of foreign cams ^^

That's what it used to be. Now its such a commercial front that's manipulated by the guys with money. I mean seriously... BMX? have you seen all the product placements in BMX? Why do you think they decided to add it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I haven't seen anyone else except white people riding dirt bikes.

Next thing you know Nascar is gonna be in the Olympics... 😲

O, and the coverage wasn't bad. I think it was cnbc in america... i forgot
