*Spoiler* The mangaka was harassed by otaku because...

I get your metaphor, Scyfon, but I still think they took it too far for they're idealized main character. I love certain characters from many manga, and seeing something (good or bad) happen to them can affect my mood towards the story. But I don't go insane because of it. I read on and deal.
I know some otakus can get really crazy when it comes to what they love. And I do love manga, but maybe because it's not to their extent, that I don't see any justification in their assault.

That's just retarded, either the mangaka will become famous for this or will broke down due to stress
"I am the bone of my sword.
Steel is my body, and fire is my blood.
I have created over a thousand blades.
Unknown to death.
Nor known to life.
Have withstood pain to create many weapons.
Yet, those hands will never hold anything.
So as I pray, "Unlimited Blade Works."

There's no such thing as "taking things too far" for an otaku when it comes to their waifu. 🤣

Probably said this in the Kannagi discussion, but I can understand the feelings of those Otaku who harassed the mangaka.
It's like buying a new car.
If you had the money, would you rather a brand new one (virgin), or a second hand one?Like the guy on 2ch said,
“In a shonen manga it’s weird to have a romantic manga with so little idealisation.”
However, I still do not think they should have harassed the guy 😐
Whether or not the feelings of the otaku are justified or even understandable, to me, their action is a real testament to hypocrisy
As an aside: your analogy is incredibly misogynistic, I think.

JAJAJA. This have to be publicity. There can't be anyone so moronic to take this seriously.
What are they waiting? That a fantasy character appears out of the blue in front of them and beg them to end her/his virginity?
People there has to be a stop of all the stupidity going on out there. Are you going to go and burn the mangaka, as if we are back in the inquisition times?
This guys are just so brain damaged that can't think coherently this makes me remember the time marriage with anime characters was being talked about.
Stop the Absurd when it's not funny anymore.
Those kind of people need help.

Aaaw
Sorry if it came out that way ^_^;
I guess to elaborate on the analogy, I'd prefer it if the person I'm eventually gonna marry is a virgin rather than someone who's slept around/ has had premarital sex. (of course, I'd understand if the situation was one that could not be helped ie. rape)
It's not really misogynistic, it's just a matter of preference.
@gastonf
There's nothing wrong with people marrying 2D characters as it is not harming anyone.
The issue at hand is about extremists, not the otaku.
Besides, the way I see it, getting married to a character is like becoming a monk 🤣
Oh, and they're entitled to their own belief so hold back your torch, mister.

I want to comment on this. I'd like to. I do. But.
You can't really expect your future spouse to keep their undies on for you --
Someone they don't even know.
Talk about controlling. And I thought people only got upset by their partners having sex with other people AFTER they're together. Is this a manga? >.>
And to comment on your previous statement, people aren't like cars 😕 😕 😕
...I don't even 🤢
As for the Otaku harassing the mangaka because a character that was previously
deemed as pure and virginal, and was thereafter assumably "defiled" in a manga...
I used to have a little bit brighter view of people that were really obsessed with a/m.
That view is quite notably darker now.
The girl isn't real, and you'll never get a chance with her if she was.
Especially if you expect her to stay a virgin until you ruin/rape her.
That's just conceded. Though this only makes me stand true to my opinion
that all guys are the same, even the completely obsessive Otaku.
In fact they're probably worse.
Some people should just go die, that otaku was completely unnecesary, it's a story get over it, if you don't like it stop reading it.

That is not a good way to wake up in the morning...
So all guys are the same? what about gay dudes... oh wait they are no longer guys, so I get your point.
Skyfon has one single point in with I do agree, no guy NOR girl wants to know with how many guys/girls you have slept in the past, everyone may act like they don't care, but that is not the complete truth.
Mewnbrite lets say you get a boyfriend, and he tells you he did quite a lot of chicks in the past, but he now only has eyes for you, since he is quite honest and you like him, you say you don't mind his past... but now everyday he takes you out in a date, he runs into a girl he did, a DIFFERENT girl every day, you can love him all you want, and you said you didn't care, but that is bullshit, because with every encounter you feel either mad, jealous or depressed, and a guy in that situation would feel like that too... probably worse.
Is a society thing, to reform a playboy, or reform a slut...
So don't say the past doesn't matter, because it fucking does, the past always comes back to haunt our present, that is a fact.
That is why, if you really like the the other person, you wouldn't even dare to ask that question.
Note: That Analogy SUCKS, and this one isn't much better.
Virgin girls/boys are like puppies, they are very cute, but there is nothing more to it.
Reform sluts/playboys are like old dogs that know all the tricks... they are fun to watch and they know a lot of stuff, but that takes away the fun of teaching them, and being taught by them.
EDIT:
But, Otaku means extremely obsessed people, if you call yourself an Otaku, you should really know than, so this people are indeed Otaku, they are obsessed about a 2D character to the point they care if is a virgin or not.
If you don't want to be lump together with those people then don't call yourself Otaku.
Real Otaku are the ones that know better than to call themselves one

Huh? o_O
Erm yeah...It's called abstinence.
Look it up?
Besides, who marries people they don't even know? (matchmaking not considered)

Analogy - especially look this one up.
Though I must say it was a bad example since I'm indirectly objectifying the female gender...
But then people usually use "fishes in the ocean" so should I have used "fishes" instead? >_>

I don't know how you could have had a bright view of really obsessed people in the first place 🤣

Lets not overgeneralize.
Misandristic views don't get you laid. They get you raped.
You know what?
This is like the issue with Muslims and the terrorists(extremists) .
Yeah, I went there.
Just because a few crazy ones start terrorizing, doesn't mean ALL of them are terrorists.
Otaku are generally harmless!
Don't start lumping the innocent ones with the extremists and start hating them or what not.
In fact, I expected better from this community.
Many people on MU call themselves Otaku.
Aren't we just hating each other within the community then?
C'mon guys!
Lets start referring to the people connected to this topic as extremist rather than Otaku.

It sounds like you've taken the comment way out of context.
It's not a matter of 'expecting' or 'controlling' that a particular person is a virgin, but rather believing that the person who turns out to be right for you will still be a virgin because that is one of the qualities that you look for in a partner, among other things. There are quite a few people in this world who practice abstinence until marriage, so finding someone among that group is certainly possible, and there's nothing wrong with that being a criterion in someone you look at as a potential life partner. At worst it might be "closed-minded" if you consider the number of good people you might pass up specifically because they're not virgins, but that's your prerrogative. It's your life and choice.
And I agree with the idea of calling the creeps in this story "extremists" instead of generalizing "otaku", because they really are.
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.
From a bumper sticker I like:
"If you're gonna ride my ass, at least pull my hair."
i agree with the fact that otakus are pretty obsessive but that doesn't mean that u have to be obsessive about one manga, you can be obsessive about collecting manga/anime, it's quite different, there are many types of otakus, which points to the fact that you can be an otaku and don't have to be on this guys side, and over all it doesn't change the fact that what he did is just harassment and harassment is very bad mmkay?

The question with respects to that is, do you expect the same from yourself? What I'm mainly calling into question is the double standard involved. Which is why there are so, so, so many Harem manga with a male lead and so, so, so, few harem manga witha female lead.

Of course I do.
I am very well aware that there is this unfairness between males and females on how the virginity of a female can be judged by their hymen being broken or not and how a male's virginity cannot be determined, but believe you me....I don't sleep around o_o
(Or more like...what are the chances of it happening? xD )
No sir, this man is old fashioned.
On the matter of the lack of reverse harem, I don't know...I guess girls aren't really into that? >_>
