On the contrary, reverse harems are some of my favorite stories: Fruits Basket, Ouran High School Host Club, La Corda d'Oro, Dear School Gang Leader, etc. Some of them may not be labeled harem, but the definitely have that essence.

Quote from Chaoswind

That is not a good way to wake up in the morning...

I only meant that even Otaku have high standards.
Probably even higher than a normal non-obsessed person.

Quote from Chaoswind

So don't say the past doesn't matter, because it fucking does, the past always comes back to haunt our present, that is a fact.

I never said that. I simply meant you can't blame someone for something they did when they didn't even know you. You can't bitch about things they did before they met you 😕
There's nothing wrong with wanting a virgin, but what if the one for you (if you guys believe in abstinence until marriage, you probably believe in the "one," too) is not a virgin...? Does that make them not the one? Hm.. >.>

Quote from Chaoswind

Reform sluts/playboys are like old dogs that know all the tricks... they are fun to watch and they know a lot of stuff, but that takes away the fun of teaching them, and being taught by them.

What if you meet the love of your life, regret having given your virginity away earlier, but had only slept with one or two other people? Is that considered being a slut by the person that's supposed to be the love of their life?

Quote from Chaoswind

But, Otaku means extremely obsessed people, if you call yourself an Otaku, you should really know than, so this people are indeed Otaku, they are obsessed about a 2D character to the point they care if is a virgin or not.

This is not pointed at me, correct? 🤣 I've not once called myself an Otaku.

Quote from Scyfon

I don't know how you could have had a bright view of really obsessed people in the first place 🤣

Meh, it was not that bright, but not anymore, as I've said.

Quote from Scyfon

Otaku are generally harmless!
Don't start lumping the innocent ones with the extremists and start hating them or what not.

What's the difference between an Otaku (extremists) and an extremist?

Quote from Chaoswind

But, Otaku means extremely obsessed people, if you call yourself an Otaku, you should really know than, so this people are indeed Otaku, they are obsessed about a 2D character to the point they care if is a virgin or not.

heh, when we talk about numbers:

How many girls a guy needs to have done, to be considered a playboy(or a serial rapist)?

How many guys a girl needs to have done, to be considered a slut(or gang rape victim)?

Because I am quite sure, in both cases the numbers are much more than 2 or 3.

Again not being a virgin doesn't mean shit, but when the whole town knows you (in THAT way) then something is wrong with ya, there is people out there that don't care about that, but you should be aware that to others is going to be an issue.

and it was an answer to Scyfon... (follow da arrow)

I was thinking about visiting him. But now i m determined to visit him. girls there must b lonely will try to hook up with some 😛 (joking)

But seriously wat is happening in japan?? I heard about ppl wearing naruto bands 24/7 or changing their name legally to some character name, but this harassment is too much. I hope it continues.

I think there are different levels of Otaku-ness. Indeed there are the extreme shut-ins that want to marry a fictional 2D character, but there are also people who really love Manga and Anime, love all sorts of characters, would never want to see anything bad happen to those characters, and still live normal lives and don't get all crazy about things.

But then they're not Otaku. They're simply a normal anime/manga fan (when there are different degrees), but when "Otaku" comes in, it's a pretty straight definition; Obsessive. I "love Manga and Anime, love all sorts of characters, would never want to see anything bad happen to those characters, and still live a normal life" and I'm not even close to obsessive.

That's all I have to say about that ^^, I don't want to get too off topic.

Haha, oh wow. I guess I didn't read enough.

Disregard that.

People just take these things far more seriously than needed.

"What did you get arrested for?"

"Harassing a mangaka because of how they portrayed someone."

I'd say that's a pretty funny reason to get arrested, tho.

Was with you until that, in this case there really are different levels.

Why's it bold? I simply quoted them~

Too much of this thread.
No one seems to be talking much about the Author's reaction towards the harassment?

Oh well, I think we should say some otaku instead of otaku as general. Otaku is somewhat weird but I think only some of them is stupid enough to harass the mangaka.

Take a look at two examples for the criticism from the otaku in the author's blog.

“In a shonen manga it’s weird to have a romantic manga with so little idealisation.”

This otaku is sane. Actually, he got the right point.

“Honestly, we just can’t idolise a heroine who isn’t a virgin.”

This guy has a serious problem in his brain 😐

btw, just like somebody mentioned before, harassing somebody in internet is not that serious crime, it's even a daily matter to some people. But the point is the mangaka is an otaku as well. That mean she's also obsessed by the manga and its characters, so assault her character put a lot of impacts in her mind than normal ppl think.

Quote from Wikipedia

In modern Japanese slang, the term otaku refers to** a fan of any particular theme, topic, or hobby. **Common uses are anime otaku (a fan of anime), cosplay otaku and manga otaku (a fan of Japanese comic books), pasokon otaku (personal computer geeks), gēmu otaku (playing video games), and wota (pronounced 'ota', previously referred to as "idol otaku") that are extreme fans of idols, heavily promoted singing girls. There are also tetsudō otaku or denshamania (railfans) or gunji otaku (military geeks).

While these are the most common uses, the word can be applied to anything (music otaku, martial arts otaku, cooking otaku, etc).

The western definition of Otaku is quite different from the Japanese definition, which is why you need to stop thinking that your definition is the right/only one and reject what others are trying to say.

In a sense, you are already an Otaku.

@jackblack901
Just because you don't empathize with him doesn't mean he has a serious problem in his brain.
The two comments are basically the same. It's only that one is being more subtle than the other.

Back on topic!
Being a published mangaka or an artist in general means you're gonna have a lot of criticism flying your way. Some critics may be harsher than others, but doesn't mean one should really give up over them. (I mean no offense to the mangaka by saying this)
She could drop the manga, that's fine, but I hope she doesn't stop working on manga altogether.

The western definition is not correct. It's the one I was introduced to,
but I've been told many times over (as well as read the actual definition).
So I know.
Therefore, no thank you.

Hi Scyfon , I understand what your saying and i agree this "otaku" has his right to agree/disagree with the story but should not attack the mangaka personally. Shoot there's tons of anime/manga i have read over the years where i didnt like the outcome.

Like Ranma 1/2 where the 2 main characters didnt get married or DaCapo where the guy picks his so called "sister" as his bride instead of the red haired girl. Even the ones i liked the outcome like Suzuka where Yamato and Suzuka get hitched (even if it was cuz she got pregnant) MANY others hated the outcome and wanted Hanoka as the chosen one. Even Kimi no Gozomu Ein (sp?) i liked the ending where the guy picked the long Blue haired girl where many others wanted the comatose girl.

Sorry people if i havent recalled these charaters names properly. The point is we ALL agree and disagree to these anime and manga's but not to the point where we attack the writer/mangaka, we might fuss in the forums but thats what forums are for 😀

Yes i was disappointed that Sou had a hicky and possible sex because we all probly want that "tennis newbie" to get together with Sou perhaps. I just find it so hard to believe that one chapter Sou is telling us all that she feels like she is falling in love with that "tennis newbie/hero" and the very next day calls off the dinner date and starts going out with her "first love" guy....

So this so called "first love" guy come right out of the blue after breaking up the day before and decides he wants some of the "Sou" action? and how can Sou who thinks she is in love with the "tennis newbie" decide to ditch the guy that quickly for some guy who only wants some action so quickly? At least if i was Sou i would of taken things slowly and see what happens later. The mangaka makes Sou out like she'll take just about anyone for sex if you ask me. Oh well i'm just a "low-level" Otaku fan who loves anime and romance manga 🤣
