Guys that read shoujo

I'll read shoujo, but I think that in many of the series the art focuses too much upon the characters face and upper torso and completely ignores surroundings. I also don't like the horrible obsessive crushes that the heroines seem to have. If the series doesn't suffer from these two traits, I'll read shoujo. I've enjoyed quite a few that don't.

I read shoujo. It's the stuff between the covers (story, art) that's more important than who the manga is targeted towards or classified as. Besides, who's to say what shounen/shoujo manga are typically like? Some manga blur all the lines.
Example: Azumanga Daioh
Here's a story of a bunch of cutesy high school girls doing girly things and living life...and yet? Classified as "seinen". Not even josei, but seinen.

Nah it's not blurring the lines. Azumanga Daioh is definitely not for girls. Majority of shojo/josei have romance. Azumanga has none of that, it's like... just random comedy, and I can't really see it targeted to girls. It's kind of like Minami-ke and Lucky Star. Both are seinen and both have extremely girlish moe main characters. I think its the moe that makes it for guys 😛 .

Sure, I read a crapload of shoujo. I have only vague ideas of why (I can't put it into words any better than that I tie it to escapism), but I do know more than well enough that I do.

i read shoujo too. i love romances, b/c love is the greatest feeling, and reading a romance that deeply connects you to the character makes u feel like ur living it. thats why i dont mind crying while reading some sad parts or smiling so wide my face is tearing apart on the happy ones. shoujo is usually better than most of the other kinds of genres at getting u connected with the characters, as opposed to the other ones which will kill off a main character and you couldnt give any less about it b/c u barely knew him, u just knew he could use destructo disk. 🙂 (JK, it's always sad when someone dies... 😢 )

Not all romances are shojo, usually (this is a generalization) how well developed the female lead character is tells what kind of romance this is. If the girl has anywhere from like C-F cup, then it's probably a guy romance. From Flat-B cup is prob girl romance. Also whether or not it has Bishies. Bishonen in romance automatically makes it a female romance. 😛

I'm embarrassed at first because i'm the only guy who read and rent shoujo in manga rental near my house. But now i don't care, some shoujo are better (story development) than most popular 'epic shounen' in there.

"You just bleed there and think about what you've done!"
It just seems to me that most shounen characters' main aim is to fight constantly. It's tiring after a while. On the other hand, shoujo gets sometimes too complicated; a matter of piling up as many relationship problems as there exist.
All in all, I like both kinds but if I can find both romance and action, it's just perfect. Any idea?
@Keel: LOLOL at Avatar. LMFAO.
Anyways, I think I read shoujo beacuse of the Epic Drama it often shows me. Than I go WTF and need to read more of it even though I can't take it.Sigh
But I think Shoujo mangas are like Eye candy.
Oh, and Yuri ftw, Rawr.

Till now I've mostly avoided shoujo, not because of any plot related things but because the artwork scares me. Half the time I think atleast one or more guys looks like a duck. But ya know, since everyone seems to think its pretty good, maybe I'll try reading more of it.
