Just looked on Wikipedia. On demographic it's listed as Shounen/Seinen. Is that even possible? I though a series was Shounen or Seinen depending on what magazine it's serialized in. Is it serialized in two different magazines or somethin'?

Ouran started it off for me.

(I got into the Suzumiya Haruhi phase a lot later because I was getting Ouran instead)

And, as much as it might disappoint others, I started via anime first.

After Ouran, I got into Love*Com, then went onto Nana.

There's pros and cons for each genre. A typical shounen will have fights over fights while a typical shoujo will have one heroine balance many relationships.

But, I'm drawn to the shoujo romances than the shounen romances - mainly because while the situations for both shoujo and shounen sound ridiculous, the way the characters act out in shounen makes it from ridiculous to impossible.

But - it's a secret. No one really knows about this "addiction". People around me don't really look at manga and anime in general as something healthy.

Oh and I really don't like serieses like Vampire Knight. What the hell is up with the male leads... I'm picky in the sense that the male leads in the shoujo romances look relatively normal. And I stay away from shoujo-ai and shounen-ai. No thanks.

I find the topic kind of funny only 'cause if you go the other direction (girl's reading shounen/seinen) it'd basically be a non-topic-of course girls read it.

shrugs I'm another girl whose brother got her into shoujo, specifically anime. He's a total Nana fanboy, so he introduced me to the anime, which got me into looking at shoujo-and not just the comedies.

Woot i read shoujo manga.......if never been ashamed of reading them nor will i ever will.....i never read smut tho......anyone care to explain what goes on in smut manga's? it sounds to dirty and i try to avoid them...... explain me what they do in it and maybe il read them 😛

Pretty much same as the other shoujo titles...only difference is the characters have sex though not explicitly shown

I started reading shoujo manga when I began to buy "DNAngel", at the age of 13, not knowing that it was a "manga for girls." And since then it has just rolled on.

I belive that I read shoujo manga because it tends to have more feelings in the plot than shounen manga...

Shoujo is just hell lot more interesting than shounen, shounen has a tendency to be uber cliche, and the character development sucks, other than a few such as claymore.
I've read like 100+ shoujo titles >.> and i gotta say it is hell lot better than most shounen out there

characters are more annoying but the plot tends to be more deep then shounen. But Seinen wins all the way.

Yep, Yep I agree..I am a gal and I know I read more shoujos but I like Seinens and some shounens, nice to know straight guys read shoujos...check out Otomen, goes to show how you shouldnt stereotype people...I do dislike ecchi though smut + shoujo wins!! ....ah! yes, shounens do get repetitive!!...but so do shoujos if you dont count the famous ones...

i'd have to disagree. im a girl and the reason why i dont read a lot of shoujo is because theres not enough character developement/depth. the girls are so typical and annoyingly stupid (except for a few of course). ugh, just thinking about it pisses the living crap out of me.

I tried reading shoujo but failed... miserably. The sparkles and flowers makes my eyes bleed 🤢 it was just so... so... so blinding... DNAngel wasn't as bad but typical shoujo is tantamount to poking my eyes with sharp objects.

I guess the biggest problem I have with shoujo is the art, but the drama+romance thing is pretty bad too and that's like half of the shoujo out there. If shoujo is the work of the devil then yaoi is the devil's worst nightmare.

I'm a guy and I read Shoujo more than any other gender, ever trought I mix it with other ones usually (ecchi,drama,romance,gender bending...)

In fact I dyslike barely all shonen... but I loved Zombie Loan (don't really know if it could be counted as shonen...)

Guys, don't feel strange becouse you read shoujo, it is just normal.

And it has nothing to do with sexuality. :3

yep, have to agree, I read all genres, shounen (selected series), seinen, josei but mostly shoujo to be honest, I enjoy them so I really don't care what kind of demographic group they're aimed at

I mean, what does it matter, you should read what you want to read 😀
