The most popular punk/ska cover band you've probably never heard of. =)
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.
From a bumper sticker I like:
"If you're gonna ride my ass, at least pull my hair."

Wire - though most of their stuff is actually post-punk
The Adverts
X-Ray Spex
The Homosexuals
Pere Ubu - well they're not strictly punk either
Television - proto-punk
are some of my favourites.
The New Pornographers
They're great and all but i don't think they're considered as punk. They're classified as indie rock which translates to very good pop music in this case.

Black Flag
The Sex Pistols
The Clash and Blondie, to a lesser degree.
(can you tell I'm rather old-school?)
For modern music, I like going to local shows.
Punk without the live experience just isn't the same.
And punk bands that sell out lose something essential (hackcough Green Day).
The Sex Pistols all the way also agreed green day sold ouuuuuuttttttttt, they just suck now
also for a more underground hardcore punk Negative Approach rocks your nuts off, though you've probably never even heard of em, they are in my opinion are one of the best punk bands out there
