Best storyline? I've got to say Final Fantasy VI. Every character had been developed so nicely, and there wasn't really a main character.

Hmm I think we must divide them into categories, 'cause "BEST Storyline" hmm is kinda hard to choose, Most RPGs have an epic Storyline, games like Metal Gear have a War-Conflic Storyline, also games like Star Ocean have a Space Opera Story line....

personally, chrono trigger is fantastic for story and it oozes charm throughout too. mario rpg had a great fun story too, totally different for any mario game and great standing on its own. FF6 too - just for sheer immenseness.
for classic oldschool (like nes setting) without being too oldschool, i'd say FF9.
and for my oldest love - pokemon blue and red had AWESOME storylines. to prove it, I bet everyone who has played it remembers - and all done on the tiny gameboy screen!

FF series. Cant pick one.

Suikoden II and V (very unpredictable!!).

Metal Gear III (the Big Boss' real intentions...who knew? 🙁 cried at the ending.)

FFVIII and X (yeah, a million people would debate about this. But I cried so much I could barely see the screen.)

Ico (it definitely wouldn't count as the most complicated story, but there's sweetness in its simplicity)

and of course......no "best story" thread will be complete without the infamous TETRIS. 😀
