Wouldn't just looking at the votes on the series info page tell you how popular a particular series is?
And if someone is too lazy to give a vote, then they're probably going to be too lazy click on a like button.
i think like buttons are more appealing and way simpler...
Your opinion is not the majority.
oh thats right, because i was totally claiming it to be the majority, right...? 🙄
No, your opinion is just more or less irrelevant because it's not. Who cares if you didn't say that? The line of logic doesn't change.
how is my opinion irrelevant... i created the thread ... 😕
am i there fore band from expressing an opinion 😕
No, expression is fine. I'm sort of confused as to why you don't understand this. Because your opinion does not represent the majority, in this particular instance, it doesn't have any weight. Saying something like "well I prefer it when things are like X" is ultimately meaningless when few people seem to share that opinion and the problem at hand is something which impacts a community. It would be impractical and illogical to attempt to change a system because one random person prefers something a certain way.
The issue is really that your rejection of a cogent argument can be simply reduced to "I like something else better." There's no substance, no evidence, nothing to prove your point. Just an empty opinion. That doesn't add anything to the discussion, it's just a waste of hot air, much like this post of mine itself, quite frankly.

i understand what a majority is -_-
i dont understand why someone mentioned i am not the majority, of course im not the majority,
i never said i was... so i was confused as to why the smart mouth from this person...
and i am not trying to change anyones opinion i am just simply providing support for my opinion
in attempt to keep the thread alive...
and second of all ... the purpose of threads are to state your opinions and or facts, if you call me out for wasting my time expressing an opinion, i think you call 99.9 percent of MU members a waste of time for expressing there opinions...
why because i am the president of the student council of course

we are all aloud to have our opinions, that's what free speech is. just because he's not in the majority doesn't mean he's not aloud to voice it. I also agree that adding facebook on MU sounds like a bad idea, but it's not anyones place to say his suggestion is irrelevant either just because his opinion is different. try having a fair argument with claims and support, as my teacher would say. 🙂

I don't know it wouldn't really bother me,because it seems like everything is connected to face book these days.but i probably wouldn't use it unless,it was a manga i really, really liked which makes it seem like it's not a necessarily needed function, but it wouldn't be a problem if it became an added feature never the less.

No. Just... no.
I'm already creeped out about Facebook as it is, looming from every page, in every corner of the internet... I don't want it to defile MU too.
Why are we so desperate to centralize the internet lately?

I think that because we have the voting system we don't really need a like/dislike button.

As for the idea, tons of manga sites already do what tokyo_homi suggested, so it seems a bit pointless. But what you could do is just completely rip off of Facebook and add a like system exclusively for MU and what we "like" would show up on our profile pages (And it would be more specific than the like system that we already have).
The above is just a causal suggestion though, so if it gets shot down I won't try to make counter-arguments.

What I took issue with was that his claim did not have any support. If it's empty it's empty. You can say something is irrelevant if it's a comment that doesn't mean anything and still be having a fair argument. Coming back with support for a claim, rather than just saying "no" to a cogent argument, is an integral part of that process.
This needless saga aside, it would just be an ultimately meaningless endeavor that virtually no one would utilize. Like facebook or hate it, it's just not worth the effort to produce something when a more complex and nuanced system which is ultimately more useful is already in place.

ironic lol
but thats even a better idea than what i thought of.
i like the idea of it being shown on each members page alot, that way we can reference it to others or view "liked" manga from other members we draw similar interest in.
why because i am the president of the student council of course

Well..... actually with just a simple effort you can do this.
Just try Edit List, name your new list as you like.. ex. Favorite Manga List. Make it Public.
Put your "liked" manga there.. And it's shown on your Profile Page.
Create it if you like and don't if it's troublesome. Individual's freedom lol
That's just my suggestion though.
*As for members who have similar interest, click on list stats anywhere you see the page of manga series. There you can check who got lots intersecting with yours..
I don't do it though.

Besides, looking at how many people have Facebook liked a manga wouldn't represent the fanbase: some people don't have facebook, some don't care to click loads of 'like' buttons, and some wouldn't want to click a 'like' button for certain manga... hentai manga for example. Especially if you have your parents as Facebook friends. "Hi son, I see you liked some comic about 'Tentacle Rape' on Facebook." AWKWARD.
This comment rocks! I had a mental image of that awkward convo and couldn't stop laughing!
Anyway, much I enjoy facebook as a means for keeping in touch with the masses in an efficient and fairly enjoyable way, I agree with many others that MU does not need a like button, or similar button to show popularity. I prefer the voting system, it's way more representative than 135 people like this etc. I use a combo of the summary, votes and comments to decide what to read. As Comel pointed out, if you're inclined to do so, you can easily make a favourites list for people to check out on your profile, as well as any other list you can come up with.
What I do think would be cool is if, somehow, when reading the comments, or on other people's profiles, there was something to tell you how similar your tastes were. For instance, if someone posted on a romance that it was brilliant and a must-read, I am more likely to take notice if they have similar tastes to me than if we are complete opposites. I know you can just check out lists, but not everyone makes them public and it takes ages. I'm thinking something quick, like a percentage, which takes into account all the manga you have read/reading/dropped/want to read, the genres you usually go for (maybe top 5 rather than top 3) and, most importantly, the score you gave each manga. It can compare these things and say "you have 89% compatability with such-and-such" etc etc etc.
I;m pretty sure than would be hard to do though, I know nothing about computers and websites and such, but I imagine it can't be easy to pull off so please don't start telling me about the impossability or extreme difficulty. If it were possible, I think it would be cool, but MU is already better than other sites for finding new manga, imho. Another cool thing would be a ranking system based on votes as well as activity.
The pen is mightier than the sword...and considerably easier to write with.

There is already something like this. As comel said, just go on a manga series page, I guess one you really like, then click one of the numbers under the "List Stats" section. If you choose number of people with it on their reading list, it lists all those people and gives their rating and a percentage of how many of the manga on your list correspond with theirs.
Example: I go on the page for Emma, I click where it says 'On 1029 completed lists'. New window opens with a list of people and percentages, and I can see that some user called 3110 stars has 182 items on her completed list that are also on my completed list, which is 47%. So I can assume our tastes are pretty similar. Then I can go on their profile and plunder their lists for new series.
