Best samurai manga
Quote from palabasa
Blade of the Immortal is good but not my favorite..skills-wise he just suck, using immortality to kill off opponents just doesn't click for me. and i dont see any character development at all(stucked at vol11), maybe except for the girl..but the artwork is just topnotched...
i am wondering how good the mangas of rurouni kenshin and samurai champloo, they were great animes...
i've tried reading samurai deeper kyo and after volume 1, i stopped..
haha I agree without his immortality Manji would be long dead

have to be kenshin for the traditional action/adventure manga and gintama for comedy.
Well, I would need to copypaste all the comments for the answers that I have.
I have not tried Gintama yet. Gotta check.

Rurouni Kenshin! Even though I never finished it 😛
Anyone know if the anime was any good? 😕
it was pretty good, but it only covered the first two arcs of the manga
still a great anime by my standards
the ending video is beyond phatAh, that's a shame. What about the dub? Any good? 😕 Cuz I know it was on TV at one point, but I missed out on it...(wasn't into anime when it was on 🙁 )
i was younger but i remember the official english dub was pretty good
ive been meaning to check out gintama, if its the one i think it is

I've only read two:
Rurouni Kenshin, which I found amazing.
And Samurai Deeper Kyo, which I wasn't fond of, and stopped at vol2.
For people who started SDK and decide to stop with it at volume 1/2/3:
**Don't stop **!!
I also stopped reading SDK during the first volumes, not because I disliked it but I just didn't get into it. But a few weeks later I resumed reading out of boredom and once I plowed through those "intro-volumes" I discovered another great manga 😎
In the beginning it seems that the plot is either unstable or that there isn't (a good) one but I'm glad I'm reading it so ... the message of this post: Don't decide to stop reading SDK after only 2-3 volumes !!
I stop reading SDK after ch 108, gonna wait for at least 1 full volume.

- Blade of the Immortal
T_T thats all I've read. though i have only heard good things about Kyo so i may read that in the near future. and/or Kenshin.
But Vagabond is definitely a great read for anyone who's into that kind of thing. I highly recommend. 😀

SDK, started out well. it had an interesting character design, and a good plot, and artwork was fine...... 120+ chapters later, it kinda died down on me. artwork was still great, but the plot became kinda...... uninteresting.
and what hurts the most is the dialogue. you will get characters using the word "destiny", and its just my personal opinion, but i hate it when a character of any manga series say it. if thats not the case, dialogues are so weak. they just have no impact, no feelings at all. scenes that are meant to be sad just doesn't deliver. the mangaka tried TOO hard to express it. an example is Kyo's past. sure, it was kinda tragic, but not so much to the point where it showed everyone who heard it cry. honestly, it was a pathetic scene.
Rurouni Kenshin on the other hand, was great. sure, character designs were weird at times compared to SDK, but it had impact. it had a story to tell. dialogues were well presented, and filled with emotions. action scenes didn't seem repetitive (btw, over time, SDK was) and was fresh. people complain that the hero doesn't kill, but seriously, thats more of a question of preference than it is of whether the series is great or not.
Vagabond, is like an autobiography. realistic drawings, realistic physics, etc. not that its a bad thing really. the drama's there, and character development are deep. and hey, its about one of Japan's legendary sword master, Miyamoto Musashi. if you're mom is asking you what you're doing, tell her you're reading history while reading this.
Blade of the Immortal. artwork; awesome. plot; terrific. nuff said. the only turn off i guess is that it comes out once a month.
i dunno about Gintama. great series, but i wouldn't label it as a samurai manga. it leans a lot more to comedy.
there's also peacemaker Kurogane, but i dunno how it goes.
