Does Usagi Yojimbo count? I know it is an American comic (Published by Phantagraphics, then Dark Horse). But it is drawn by a Japanese Mangaka. I think it is one of the best Samurai stories ever. Even if Sakai borrows heavily from the Akira Kurosawa films, Zato Ichi, and Lone Wolf stories. I still think this is one of the best ever.
How can it not count? This series is awsome!
Cos' Stan Sakai is part American, part Japanese, I believe. Besides, he resides in America and published Usagi there, so it's a comic.

Lone Wolf and Cub
Rurouni Kenshin
Vagabond
Blade of the Immortal
Manji actually has skill. Maybe it was just me, but he had to have some skill to kill so many people before he was immortal. Its very subtle but it shows us hes punishing himself for what hes done and he has let his skills dulled. Rin even lets us know that he is. Maybe its just me though, given I read this awhile ago.
Kurozuka
If you can consider this a samurai manga. Starts in that time ends 1000 years+ later heh and time skips. Main weapon is a samurai sword.

only reason manji sucks with his swords is the fact he became immortal, before then he was the best of the best, if in the story it somehow is lost he would have to train to regain those skills,
and i'd guess my number 1 is lone wolf and cub then rurouni kenshin , cause i haven't read any of the others yet, thou i'm going to start
editing my post for the sole reason i just started reading vagabond, while long while back i tried to read it finished volume 1 and wasn't my fancy, but not i'm up to volume 8, and must admit it isn't shaby pretty good infact, may end up number 1 after i read more right now i'll make it number two

Define "samurai manga": manga with element of japanese style sword martial art medieval setting. in this case it mean berserk, claymore dont fit but Kurozuka fit even though it's SF-ish (because the swordstyle in there is kendo). Until Death Do Us Part is a sword manga but not samurai because the style is more european sabre than kendo (I think).
Okay, now then to the list:
-
Rurounin Kenshin: A manga with special place on many reader's heart because it's one of the earliest long series on the Net. Sometimes it's a bit corny but... WTH. 🙄
-
Blade of Immortal: the ambience in this manga is amazing. If you want to read about medieval japan you cant go wrong with this puppy.
-
Vagabond: a manga about most famous sword saint of Japanese. Whats' not to like? the awesomely sword fight? the blood? the sex? the character development? the background? It's top of the list for best samurai manga of all time is what it is.
-
Kurozuka: Kendo with SF element. Very good manga that can contest the top position of the list.
There are many other good samurai manga but it's not comparable to these top 4:
Togari, Basilisk, XBlade, Hagane, Kaze hikaru, Koi Kaze, Kurogane, and etc...
