Alright new one, are girls REALLY short in japan? Example is like Lovely complex, they make a HUGE deal about how she's 172cm which translated to imperial system is only 5' 6" that's not that tall even for a girl, most girls I know are about that height anyway. In another manga this girl is 165cm and people are like OMG OMG OMG she's so talll!! that's only 5' 4" which is not that tall.

...Can't say for me, but I know that when my cousin came back from teaching there for a year, she suddenly felt short again. She's about 5'4" tall, or short if you want to call it that, so she's probably the second-shortest person in our family. My grandma wins, we call her a midget. Jokingly, mind you, jokingly. Anyway, she kept going on and on about how she was considering impressively tall while in Japan. Which, when you compare her to my asian friends, does kind of work... but still, it's an interesting question.

Average height seems to be around 5'0" to 5'2" But I have seen some nearly as tall as me, 6'0", and some that probably be let on rides at six flags because of height restrictions. So to answer, yes there are some really short folks over here.

I wonder what other sources there are online like this (other than trying to track and keep a keypal). There use to be this sort of 'journal' that an American had written about for her year or so spent in Japan in high school and it was on the University of Berkeley's (excuse me if I misspelled the name, but I didn't go there and it's not my life's ambition, so it's not a requirement to know how to spell the school's name 😛 🤣 I think the spellchecker gave me the correct spelling though 😉 ). It probably expired because she graduated and Berkeley deleted her stuff.

I'm thinking you might be thinking of this set of articles:

I could be wrong though. 😃

uh, cigarettes in vending machines aren't that rare. They used to everywhere here in the states. Atleast until the early 90's when the "just say no" campaign really started to take off. Most of you kids probably weren't even born then, which makes me feel even older than I am. thanks. 😐

here in canada you can't find anything like that, even in casinos (at least the ones i've been to). they really try to prevent people from smoking here. the only place you can get them are in stores and they ask you for ID (18+, or 19+ where i live).

cool topic! Is sexual harassment in subway still prevailing? Do girls/women just let the molesters have their ways? Don't people step in to help out (i mean it's not like the molester has a gun and ready to pull it out)? Are molesters only guys 😀 ?

Here's a question, what would a real-life version of a japanese bishonen/bishoujo be? Would it have to be like Rain (Bi)?

A real-life bishounen will be a beautiful (and effeminate) young man...in their early 20's at most. Alpha males (read: "manly" men in its stereotypical sense) are not bishounen.

Bishoujo could apply to any cute young girl who is feminine. (the "bi" in bishoujo and bishounen means lovely, beautiful, sweet...)

I don't age has much to do with it, but they are typically young..

Example would probably be Se7en.

How often would a tourist encounter Western-style toilets in Japan?

Is kancho really as popular amongst the kids as made out in Gaijin Smash? (warning: some foul language is present)
EDIT: Wow.

I also heard that large drinks in vending machines are the same price as small drinks; true/false?!

Also, are you serious? No way, lol! Japanese society must be pretty tolerant.

i don't think there is a such thing as an "indian casino". indians (i'm asuming you mean native americans) just go to regular casinos
😃

In the US, native Americans on tribal lands are under tribal laws rather than state laws - most state laws prohibit casinos, while many tribal laws don't (there are other differences too; laws regarding fireworks & cigarettes are also different) so there are "Indian Casinos" in the middle of states that prohibit casinos, because they're on tribal lands.
