Can't believe I forgot about Ishida from Bleach. He's like one of the only characters in that manga that's beaten people without anyone thinking that it was bullshit how he won.

Just because someone's head was chopped off doesn't mean they're dead. That's just silly.

Lelouch from Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion and Akiyama Shinichi from Liar Game. Lelouch's physical ability is nonexistant and while he can pilot a mecha, he can't really fight with it. He definitely relies on his intelligence to pull through. As for Akiyama, well, the manga isn't an action one in the first place. In Liar Game, you fight using your intelligence and Akiyama is really, really good at it. 8D He gets compared with Light from Death Note a lot, it seems.

Aadklfjasdflkdjkal, all these smart protagonists! It's like BRAIN-PORN, or something. (Okay, somebody stop me. I'm not sure I want to know where I'm going with this.)
😀 😀 😀
There are definitely a few favorites emerging. Eumenes from "Historie" is doing well, as are the "Death Note" boys.
I've never read "Akagi" - looks interesting! And for some bizarre reason, I had never read "Vinland Saga," but after the temptation of a smart hero, I've immediately started downloading it. Thanks. <3

Taikoubou on Houshin Engi, can't believe no one mentioned him!! He's my favorite!!
and Ueki in the early chapters where his only power is his tree-to-trash

Keima Katsuragi from The World God Only Knows.
Using his knowledge from the various games (mostly dating simulation) he plays, he is able to plan out certain moves and strategy to capture the spirits one after another.
See ya!

Seconded. Plus, this manga is seriously turning out to be a parody of so many types of shounen I've read: sports, fantasy, harem, spirits, demons, etc; and it's surprisingly fun to read even for those who're not very familiar with visual novels. 🙂 And it helps that he has an interesting character... 🙂

I recommend Kiyomaru from Konjiki no Gash!! even if in the end the fight became less stragical and more cliched(The protagonist wins because he is the good guy and helps his friend etc).

This thread is pretty much dead, but anyway; Kyu and Ryu (heh- funny, their names rhyme but they aren't twins or relatives, and have nothing in common with each other) from Tantei Gakuen Q are all brains, and basically no brawn (but Ryuu can do eveything, karate not excluded 😀 )

too many mentions of eumenes,
oh.....
don't dismiss his running speed, his diplomatic skill, and of course, his combat skill
brain alone isn't enough, or you'll die like L.

Obviously the coach of Last inning wins hand down. He is the brain, the team just executes his plan. No magic nor supa powa involved. And ** evey trick is explained** So you can actually use them.
