I'm looking for something with a male protagonist who has either a terminal, crippling illness, or one that's not terminal but getting worse with no chance of recovery, who's trying to hide it. Or if not hide it, then just doesn't try to talk about it much.

No fantasy or sci-fi where it severely impacts the plot, I don't mind something like Onegai Teacher where there are elements of it, just nothing where it's set in space or the future or some fantasy world, I want something at least a little realistic. Preferably school-life, but doesn't have to be:

Things I've Read:
School Rumble
Onegai Teacher

Thanks.

Well, if you don't mind yaoi there's

Utakata no Hibi by Toko Kawai
Cho ni naru hi (mild shounen ai) by Yumomo Sumeka

No fantasy. And I'm not into yaoi, I don't mind shounen-ai if it's light though.

Thanks anyway.

Well, Utakata no hibi is yaoi, although it isn't too graphic and the story is very sweet :3 (They can't have sex because of the uke's weak heart)

But if you'd prefer shounen-ai ones, I think Sumomo Yumeka works might interest you (expecially Cho ni naru hi, where sexes aren't even specified )

Hm .. I don't know - maybe Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu.
Don't know about the "no recovery" though .. 'cause the series is not finished. >.<
And the lead is also a girl.

These fit but don't exactly fall into my interests. Seizon-Life is far too depressing, even for the subject matter, I'd prefer something where the protagonist is trying to make the best of his life.

Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu may fit, but I don't like the pretty boy suave type in almost every shoujo, I honestly think the only male shoujo protagonists I like are Ryuuji from Toradora, and the main character from Otomen.

Thanks though.

the story is not only focused on the illness but you can enjoy Koizora if you like sad story.

Real

Also Heaven's Door (HONGOU Ranko), although I personally found it a bit blah

Renri no Eda, kind of. (And yes, I'm sure the guy had a sickness too).

Er, anything lighter? I mean I knew what I was asking for what depressing but I was more looking for the trying to make the best of life theme. I'm sorry, all there fit, they're just to dark, and I find it hard to believe there isn't a single manga where the illness isn't depressing and all-consuming.

The terminal illness is not really significant in the plot till the end of the story, you don't even know its terminal.
And its epic fantasy war so...

Shin Angyo Onshi
The male protagonist with an Illness/curse that develops in terminal
