Controversial Manga
Has any manga made it to the news due to some controversy or something? Or caused some commotion?
The only manga I can remember is Death Note which is banned in some countries, and even is the cause of copycat murderers and expulsions for creating duplicate Death Notes.
Know any other controversial ones?

Wasn't the licensing of Kodomo no Jikan dropped in the US? (I think it was the anime)
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

Yeah it was, but than again most lolis have been dropped for the same reason..
Ichi the Killer has caused some commotion here, even made the news one time. I've heard lots of talk of Angel Sanctuary as well, haven't read it but the topics it covers are considered controversial, at least here.

Here in Mexico Ranma 1/2 caused a lot of conmotion eleven years ago; that only demostrated a low culture about anime and manga, I guess. >:-(
Still here...

Well, I know that a lot of Tezuka Osamu's early works depicted blacks in a bad manner (think big lips etc.), and it did create minor controvery, but Dark Horse decided to print them without editing those parts anyways.

Naruto and InuYasha generated some controversy up on my country, but it was just due to violence stuff.
I heard that Nana got some on Japan, as people there tought the manga was influencing the "poor girls".
I can't recall any other, sorry 🤢 My country doesn't have a huge coverage on manga, so media mostly only discusses unknown lolicon works, high violence manga and "crazy otaku" cases (the most recent I can remember was a girl with non-supportive parents who ran away home with her boyfriend "due to cosplay influence").

also, there was this forum on some other site that was discussing FMA and all of the references to christianity. whatever. i say leave it the way it is. its all there for a reason, right?

Yeah I'm from Mexico too and I remember that. They claimed it was porn or something...
Another one I remember around that time was Pokemon because a kid jumped out of his window (from a second floor I think) saying he was a pokemon that could fly... if I remember correctly he died. There were also talks of another kid that killed his friend because "Pikachu told him to". They claimed that Pokemon had subliminal messages but I don't remember if it actually got banned.
These are all things I remember from when I was small so I can't say they are 100% accurate. And they're both anime haha sorry - I don't know about any manga...

Oh yeahhhh, i just remembered the case about the kid who buried his friend in sand imitating Gaara. He died. I guess this made Naruto pretty controversial.

Harenchi Gakuen was controversial back in the 60s when it was first published in Weekly Shonen Jump, as both parents and teachers complain about the ecchi content it was displaying.
Devilman was also controversial as well, largely due to the excessive violence that it displays at the time of its publication.
See ya!

I remember that! That's the reason I wasn't allowed to watch any of "those Japanese cartoons" growing up or collect the cards (although my brothers own all the gameboy pokemon games...? Is there another one of my mom's double-standards there?)

That was a bunch of kids bullying a younger kid, I believe. But yeah the news reported that they had been influenced by Gaara. Really stupid shit can happen sometimes.
