I searched through topic titles and didn't see this so I hope it hasn't already been done.

Recently I thought I might start rating some of my completed manga and noticed that scores are often really high or on occasion really low. A lot of 10's are given out and think my rating scale must be different as I always thought 5 was the halfway mark between good and bad so I'd like to know how eveyone else rates things.

On a 1-10 for me it would be:

10 - Near Perfect
..9 - Exceptional
..8 - Really Good
..7 - Solid
..6 - Upper side of okay
..5 - So So
..4 - Weak
..3 - Pretty Bad
..2 - Awful
..1 - Beyond Redemption

I rate quite subjectively, i don't really rate the ones i didn't like, and my scale would be more or less like this
10- Excelent
9- Very Good
8- Good
7- Passable

For some strange reason i gave a few 10 and then began to rate between 9 and 10 the manga i really enjoyed (lots of 9.2, 9.3, 9.4... until 9.9, i don't give 10 anymore...)

I don't break a manga down into individual components like art, story, characters, etc and rate it (like how Gamespot rates games), I judge a manga on overall reading experience. I also rate things similar to how my school related stuff is graded, with a 7 being average.

10- Excellent, doesn't get much better than this, etc
9- Pretty damn good
8- Easily recommended to anyone
7- I'd recommend it, but there are better ones out there; average
6- nothing special
5 and below: not worth reading, you might want to read it just to see how bad it is, waste of time, etc.

I just rate manga on how much I enjoy them/the quality overall. Basically, my system is totally arbitrary (because I can do it that way), and most things end up with a 7, mainly I only read manga that I feel that I'll like anyways.

My system is pretty arbitrary too, I noticed I have given out a bit too many 10's (I'll have to correct that one..someday...).
I only rate them based on enjoyment, so one average manga that was a lot of fun to read might get a higher mark than a very original manga, but which somehow couldn't keep my interest long enough and so on.
10 is damn perfect and I prefer forgetting the existence of those mangas I read that deserved a 1.

I start with 9.9 for all mangas. As soon as I read or see something I don't enjoy, the rating goes down slightly until it reach its final mark. I've never encountered any manga under 5, the only one with it is because I encountered a feat that pissed me off. Usually, I stop reading when the mark is too low and if the manga is really bad (or I feel it like that), its doesn't even appear on the incomplete list.

I never give 1 or 10 because there is nothing worth either of them.

That's easy:

1. I like it.
2. I don't like it.

Usually rating by genre is enough for me.

Generally I rate them sort of like this,

10 - Thoroughly Enjoyable, really good read.
..9 - Really good read, but not a 10.
..8 - Pretty good, a few quirks but good enough.
..7 - Noticable flaws in one of the areas, but the rest were good enough.
..6 - Above average, typical work with no major flaws or strengths.
..5 - Decent with a good share of flaws.
..4 - Not that great, but readable.
..3 - Bad, barely readable with flaws in at least 2 areas.
..2 - Quite horrendous in terms of most areas of the manga, not worth reading.
..1 - Absolutely horrendous, wanting to get my mind erased.

Other (I know, sometimes there's just that extra something with certain works that make you want to keep reading and it doesn't make sense with the above options, hence other...)

    1-5) F, I consider 1-5 as terribad so it doesn't make a difference if it is a 1 or 5 cuz it is not good. Are you going to read a 5 but not a 2? 1-5 same difference.

Good and bad, is how i rate it.

I don't waste my time with bad manga, so it's good or exceptional.
