Taiyou no Uta : all time the best tear jerker story
Bradherley no Basha : really dark and sad
Chrno Crusade: good shounen with a sad ending.
Half & Half, Kon no Ki Konoha oneshot

Saishuu Heiki Kanojo and Elfen lied are most similar to Ai-ren I think
