Does art matter? That is the question. When you are searching for a new manga to read does the way the mangaka draw the pictures matter to you? If so, what kinds of drawing features do you look for in manga pictures?

AS for me, it really depends on the story. If the story sounds great but the art is so-so I might read it, I might not. It all depends.

Yea sometimes it's what catches my eye on a series. And it makes a good series even better(ie. 20th century boys)

I chose 'yes' although I should have chose 'depends', grr...

Some mangaka's art style is considered 'ugly' from a 'normal' point of view, but there are a few like that which I absolutely love 😃
If I really like a mangaka's style, I'll read as much stuff from them as possible 🙂
I have no idea what kind of drawing features I look for...I guess it's just whatever appeals to me, idk 😕

Can i ask if depends and i don't really care are actually the same as no?

Depends = Depends on the story or mangaka or whatever [so this is the same as No]
I don't really care = Don't care about the art [also no] <- unless you don't care about the main topic of this thread then why even bother voting? O.o... survey?

Anyway, no it doesn't matter. Since I once read this incest story and it's hilarious but the art is hideous and i still love it no matter what :] I forgot the name though so shame on me T_T

for me, i don't really see it as "good art," but art that works with the story. i dunno how to really explain it, but it has to be a balance of art and storyline, so i think art does matter. but art does help it catch my eye too...

Mostly I'd say yes the art matters - I have a hard time reading something if I can't stand looking at the artwork. Though, if the story is really good, I might suffer through it. I've found a few manga to where I didnt 'like the art but the story was enough; eventually the art grew on me.

Then there's other times I just can't do it - GTO the Early Years, for starters. GTO was okay, but I couldn't take that earlier stuff.

So - it depends. But then again, it's all a matter of preference, ne?

Depends. While I love good art work, a crappy story+writing kills it.

i don't really care if the art is good or bad but in some cases if in my opinion the art completely turns me off i'll stop the series but it hink that's only like happened once and i forget what series it is, other than extreme cases i don't care about the art. the storyline does it all

If it's terrible drawings, even if it's the best plot ever I won't read it. I look for a good plot and good drawings to go with them.

The art in manga is crucial to my choosing, meaning as long as the art is not bad, I'll consider reading it.

Good art is an addition, i won't mind a great story with bad art, but i wouldn't look at good art if it didn't have a good story. However, if the story was Great and the Art was great too, then thats what i call a master piece. What i really care so much about even more than the story, is the Characters, i adore good well-rounded characters! strong ones~<3

Beautiful art is the reason I read manga. If the art isn't good, might as well just read a book, IMO.

in general a would chose something would good art, after all it would be quite a chore to try reading something that looks terrible, especially if its quite lengthy. Although if the art improves along the way then its not too much of a concern 😃

hm.....? you make a good point. It made sense when I put it in one of the choices.

I guess it's:
Yes: the drawings effect if I read the manga or not
No: I will read it even if it is ugly\the drawings do not effect whether I read the manga or not
Depends: if story is good, I will read\if drawing is nice I will read it
I don't really care: I just like to read manga in general\some people say it's ugly but I don't think so\ugly or not I will read it.

Art does matter, but not as much as the story.

I appreciate all styles, but I can't stand manga with characters that have the same faces.
