I was reminded of this thread while reading the Renai Junkie, although they end doing that in both stories it has an interesting twist to it.
I'd really like to see more stories where you don't have only the insert-on-hole thing. I think the third story on Akanai Tobira has something different too. 🙂

Try Yoneda Kou, specially the Katekyo Hitman Reborn! doujinshis. In several stories the couples does other things than anal. The art is beautiful and hot. 😁

Yatteraneeze! This is shounen-ai, 7 volumes, of which they spend maybe 5 in relationship building, issues, and 'heavy petting', and only have anal sex a few times near the end of the series.

Another along those lines (although incomplete) is Aitsu no Daihonmei.

Well, if you're okay with "unusual" expressions of intimacy, you might want to try Partners and its heavy BDSM focus. 😀 Penetration isn't nearly as important in this manga as all the other psychosexual stuff that goes on... Same thing with Hoshi no Yakata. Sometimes, penetration doesn't even happen, but other things do (some of them pretty extreme!).

But if you're looking for something more vanilla, I'm pretty sure that in FAKE and New York New York, the couples often have non-penetrative sex. Same with the whole Mainichi Seiten series (it's a group of inter-connected mangas). The main couple actually NEVER has penetrative sex in the entire course of the manga, but I know that they do other stuff! Heh, heh... Seinen 14 Sai and plenty of other Yamada Yugi stories have characters who often engage in non-penetrative sex.

Well I gotta say, stick to light BL and shonen-ai I guess... Anal sex is to yaoi as marriage is to a romantic relationship, I guess, and readers want to have some sort of 'finality' to the story.

A good addition to your reading list would be Nobara (KUMOTA Haruko). I'm more of a shonen-ai person myself, because as you said, the sex gets boring. It's essentially the same thing. Seven Days is another manga you can read. Aitsu no Daihonmei is another title that someone mentioned and it's really good.

Junjou has anal sex but the story didn't end there. It's truly a touching story that has a sense of current world realism to it, which is why I love it so much <3

Saigo no Door wo Shimero! - This is pretty much exactly what you requested. It's a realistic depictions of two men who have never identified as gay as they try to work out their relationship; mentally and physically. It has things like handsjobs, blowjobs and frottage.

I'd also request other things by Yamada Yugi.

Also, A Night of a Thousand Dreams, not sure if it's counted as yaoi, but they DO have sex(wich is shown) without anal. It's only once though, in the very beginning, in atleast 8 volumes. So the yaoi, or romance, is not the point at all in the series.

I think that is a very good explanation for why yaoi actually focuses so much on the anal sex being the ultimate goal. The target being females, and these (us) females seeking out yaoi to see some hawt males, in most cases. But we subconsciously relate to one of the males - the uke. That might very well also be the reason for the ukes being rather girly at times, huh. 😛

I read a series once that would fit your criteria...although they did end up having sex. Truth be told, I cannot for the life of me remember the title of it...
