i hate it when suddenly amazingly unbeliveable power ups and magic suddenly becomes a part of a "normal" manga.
of course, power ups are expected, but those "over the top power ups just when the guy is about to die" really annoys me.

Also, the childhood friend thing is also annoying

i really hate it when they talk to much when they are about to die.. in which they can have that time to rush them to the hospital or ask some team member to cure them because every shounen team always has a healer... 😐 😐

hmmm well...every team i guess has to have a healer...but umm wateva. i know if im at war id like to have a medic near me but u know thats just me crazy old coot. hmm but anyway worst cliche...i hate those annoyng mottos they always say like "thats my way of ninja" or "because we're nakama" but u know other stuff i hate hmm...i hate how theres alwayss that same formula where they learn a trick but its not quite perfected yet but in the heat of battle on the verge of death "WULLUH!! its done perfect but then oh no wait the enemy getts back up and oh no i have no more energy left but then when u look closely the enemy is unconcious and falls back down yay hurray. 😕 🙄 🙁 😲 😃

i really, REALLY hate it when they fight about something personal...since they talk about how right they are...they try to get some sense into the opponent. bad guy gets mad, attacks good guy, good guy hesitates. (too predictable...)

also, when they fight something about the past. there's too much flashbacks and it makes you wonder when are they gonna start fighting again...seriously.

oh yeah, i agree with the other posts, too. the friends thing...ughhh. if you have no power left, you're gone. u just dont get it back again. duh.

Most shounen guys are softies...for example showing mercy to villians who hurt their best friends. It's getting on my nerves
I like character who go insane sometimes....

This has been said many times probably but:

-The clueless and seemingly stupid guy.
He's practically got a whole line of girls that are wanting him and give him such obvious signs yet the guy just brushes it off as them being nice or some other crap like that. Gah! I sometimes feel like screaming at the guy "HOW CAN YOU BE SO STUPID!?"

-Nosebleeds of any shape or size of geyser
-Unbelieveable "accidents" that somehow get the guy in a pervy situation. Especially the accidental boob-grab but in general too. (Come on, having your face in a girls underwear after what? Tripping? Falling? Sitting? Sneezing? WTF!)

This is an OKAY Shounen cliche, but still irritating from time to time; (Although this is a common Shoujo cliche as well) they were born with some unbelievable power and suddenly they find out about it, and once they do, they uncover even MORE missing powers which they haven't even trained with yet beat their opponents with. I mean, come on.

By absolute worst, is the idiot hero (Naruto et al.). I don't care if he isn't the main character, but if he is, I won't read the series.

Hmmmm....
As far as I can remember, The Prince Of Tennis and SLAM DUNK has the cliche that I made the series hate.

In POT, some players there wants to become strong to beat Ryoma and become the best Tennis player in Japan.

sheesh... Give me a break...

In SLAM DUNK, there's one episode when Shohoku won the game and Sakuragi was just bragging himself that he made the team win. ">>,

Others are too much talk before resume fighting, too much confidence, and of course.... FLASHBACKS! >:-(

Flashbacks? Really? I've never considered flashbacks being a cliche, let alone a bad one, for shounen manga, especially since there a lot of good flashback arcs out there, with the big three shounen titles coming to mind (especially One Piece).

Arrogance masked as "confidence".
Nosebleeds.
Exposition during fight scenes.
Stupidity. (e.g. leaving the enemy for dead without checking, total obliviousness [some small amt is ok], etc.)

EDIT: I have to add "the best friend goes bad/turns against the hero" - I won't swear that there aren't good, realistic ways to do this, but most manga don't bother with real motivation to drive it - they do it for the cliche "oh no!" factor.

It depends how it is IMPORTANT to the story.
If its all nonsense, well... I can consider it annoying. 🙂

i agree with you on that one.
if your fighting and the main character asks why do you do this or whatever, villain stops fighting and rambles on and on...then the flashbacks take forever it makes you wonder if they're into the fight or what. i mean, cmon! you're supposed to be the villain...
(gah, naruto.) 🤢
