i found earthian to be kind of depressing, definitely the anime, and i think volume 3 /4. they depressed me a lot. also love is your name is quite depressing.... the fact that the ending was so open made it depressing but its definitely an excellent manga.

im just gonna put this in spoilers since some of the REC story and what happens is a part of the post, just incase someone doesnt want to know...
i get what youre trying to say but after she stopped struggling, he stopped to so nothing ever happened between them(thank god hes a good guy)
i get the fact that she stopped was what was bothering you(i know it pissed me off too) but like he said, the whole time she was thinking only of matsumaru and that he would save her and she just pitied him so she wasnt trying to betray anyone
i think he understood this and thats why he stopped if she really was weak and had given up he would have continued but like i said, thank god hes a good guy lol
I still think she needs to be dumped for being a retarded bitch. If you're willing to have sex with someone else just because you pitied them... wow. Any form of cheating is unforgivable in my book. If Matsumaru ever found out, he shouldn't just forgive her.
I might be angry at her but I just know Matsumaru will be the one who sleeps with someone else first (if it ever happens).

I find welcome to the nhk really depressing in the manga, though it's funny as hell at the same time >_>

Chrono Crusade and Mermaid Saga were pretty depressing. End of Chrono almost made me angry at author for making it end that way and Mermaid Saga was just depressing from the beginning, but ended on a slightly happy note.

How about Boys Next Door. It has to be the weirdest and saddest Shounen Ai.
Actually I haven't read a lot of Shounen Ai, so I can't say that. But the point it, it is just sad.
Of course if you don't like Shounen Ai, then I would say the most depressing manga have to be Uncivilized Planet and Blame!
I still don't get what is going on in Blame!, but it is so depressing. People just keep on dying.

I have never really read a manga that really is depressing so i wouldn't really know. But what would you classify as depressing about a manga in general?

Saikano / Blame
Everbody who read Saikano should know, why its depressing (the anime is worser than the manga, but thats just my feeling).
I have the feeling that Berserk is a little bit depressing too ~+

i agree with you on mermaid saga but i am more depressed about how rumiko takahashi leaves open endings except for maison ikkoku
hopefully though she will finish mermaid saga considering she is finishing off one pound gospel after 15 years in limbo
but story wise she shows us how humans sometimes can't come to grips with the consequences of their actions
like the mother who thought that her son's son was her son and basically raised him to be her's and how the same women could'nt except the giant scar on her face left by the mermaid flesh so she finds dead bodies or kills people to take their face by cutting off her own and replacing it

I'd say Elfen Lied was the most depressing but thats as far as you can go with manga. If you want to be depressed, I'd recommend anime.

Chrno Crusade. I've only watched the anime, but I'm guessing the manga was similar.
Erggh. I mean, who the heck would basically kill of all the main characters? It was a great story but the last bit was horribley depressing 🙁

Jiraishin by Tsutomu Takahashi
Never seen such a angsty cop manga where some of the main good guys get nicked off by armed criminals. Just shows that a cop's job is never easy.

Deep Love: Ayu and Reina's stories, I'm not sure if it's depressing.. but it's certainly really sad..
Say Hello to Black Jack. Just sad to see how they pictured the health system in Japan. How they have to let the poor die..

Oh yeah, Uncivilized Planet and Tropical Citron are two very distressing manga,......
