I don't subscribe to fatalism if that's what Fate means.

I'm more inclinded to soft determinism; we can't be free all the time.

eh... if you have control over your fate then that's just free will... unless you're joking?

anyway fate is usually connected to religion, with some exceptions like other people pushing their beliefs onto you... or that's just the way you think. free will all the way for me.

Oh! How about "fate" provides me with the potential and my free will decides how much of my potential I fulfill!

I'm not quite sure what "fate" is but.... There are some things that will very very VERY probably not happen in my life. ie falling into a black hole (please don't mention the LHC lol), or be a white person, or water bending (XD)~ And in a way that's kind of like fate, as in I have on say in the matter?

Anyway to be honest I have no idea what I think of the matter, but it's just an idea I'm throwing out!

I believe everything is predetermined. Bush was fated to be a crappy president, Windows Vista was fated to suck ass and I was fated to blackout at my friend's wife's birthday party.

i believe that.. fate is optional. ya know, cuz you'll reach a fork in the road, and need to pick a path. and free will is on the job. fate can't interfere.

but i believe, on each road, there's it's own "fate" you'll bound to find when you picked a road using your free will. and each "fate" is different.

destiny on the other hand, for me, is a destination you'll reach no matter which path you picked..

and the fate i was saying, is commonly known as consequences..

in the end, whatever happened was fated to happen. you choose what happens to you, and that was your fate.

Why there are only 2 options...and what is "fate" & what is "free will" ?

IMO things are not clear cut as it seem in reality...

What you usually call "free will" is actually not really "free" @ all. Your will and my will are compromise between the gene inside the continuous influences from the outside environment (BG education, cultural, the family you were accidentally born in, ppl around you, the book you read,...you name it)

For the sake of this argument, I gonna consider "free will" as the thinking/acting trait, or the compromise itself mentioned above. Notice that it WILL continuously interact with the outside influences...

And what is "fate" ?

  • If you imply "fate" as something gonna change/decide on "its" own and you have 0 power to change it...then it's no different from the continuous outside influences I mentioned above -> "fate" = outside influences (in this case)

In this case, "fate"/outside influence is one of the component that build "free will" & it will continuously interact with "free will" to shape the final outcome. So in this case, they are BOTH contribute to the outcome, not either or

  • If you imply "fate" as the something has capable of COMPLETELY changing YOUR outcome and you have 0 power to alter...then you need to prove the existence of this super-natural power first before we can discuss any further...

  • If you consider "fate" as YOUR outcome itself...then we have 0 option to choose, since "fate" and "free will" are not in the same level to pick out one.

In this case, "fate" is the result of "free will" and the outside influences (mentioned above). In this case, you are A PART of your "fate" so you will always have an impact on you "fate". Even if you decide to let the outside influences take control of your "fate" and doing nothing @ all, THAT give-up decision itself is still counted as your "free will". And that give-up decision DOES make impact on your "fate" later.

In this case, you will and always be a part of the system & take a part of the responsibility of your outcome 😉
