I love Negima, fanservice and all included.. although sometimes the story sometimes gets a little too busy to fit into a single chapter later on, and a few of the characters suffer from looking too similar.. but when you got a roster of so many characters what can you expect eh
The story didn't really pick up for me until after the first few episodic volumes, admitidly
However I only read the scanlations and Chaung Yi's publishing of it.. Del Rey's had too many eye-rolling puns and outdated localisations for my taste (last volumes I checked anyway.. maybe they've reeled it back since then)

What was the last volume you saw, Crayon?
The first few volumes were adapted by Peter David, and while I like him well enough as an author, he decided to insert his brand of humor into the manga. So while we had the Japanese honorifics, we got domestication in other areas and a bizarre change of "Thousand Master" to "Southern Master." I can report that Del Rey has at least fixed the "Southern Master" references. I didn't take the time to look for the other domestication stuff.
Lately, the title feels very much like a high-quality scanlation product. They've gotten very "otaku" in their translations. Comparing the recent stuff to AQS's stuff, they are basically the same. Del Rey doesn't have Chachazero has bloodthirsty in her remarks though. Not having read the original Japanese, I couldn't say which was more accurate.
Anyway, Del Rey has improved a lot and is (IMO) the best company to handle manga (with Seven Seas a close 2nd).

You're right faxanglu, the anime wasn't that great....coz they stuffed up the story! >_< The manga is better, nuff said, but i read that Aquastar might drop the project or something. Recently i think, im not sure, but i think there was a 5 chapter leap? from 164 to 169 where chapter 169 was not done by Aquastar but by Bakaneko. I fear we might not see updates for weeks...unless Bakaneko is continuing with the series of course.

Bakaneko is a Spanish group and I have no clue why they do weird chapter jumps...As for AQS, there should be some chapters released soon enough

Although, in this case, Bakaneko's 169 is in English (I've checked).
Also, AQS's scanlations of Negima are planned to end at 166 (I'm sure lamb knows but for everyone else, look here), so there are still three chapters unscanlated in between 166 and 169.

I know that Bakaneko did some English stuff, or else why would we report it on this site? Anyways, if you read the thread carefully, you would find out that we "might" have to stop, but as of right now, we are still going to continue.

Well, that's a relief 😮 (breathe-breathe). (forgot you were an admin for a while there) I'd really suggest you report this on AQS's frontpage (supposing you are the same lambchopsil of AQS), because "I have decided to end our scanlation job after our 100th scanlated chapter of Negima!, which is chapter 166", really threw me. 🤢

Meh, once we have something to show for it, then we'll post something to refute that claim

Ah, it's been a while since I've been in this thread hah.. last volume of Del Rey's I read was vol5.. possibly 6 (i know it at least got to the "paipan" bit)
If the cheesy puns/innuendo are gone I could consider trying it again, coz that was the biggest strain I had while reading it (aside from the errors).
Another thing I found--in these early volumes, I re-add--is that the girls didn't really read that different to each other, and when they did, they kept dropping in and out of character (usually to make bad gags).. which doesn't bode that well for girls like Chachamaru, Setsu, and a host of others..
Speaking of being out of character, it also annoyed me how Negi frequently came quite brash and sometimes rude.. Which is kind of odd for an self-proclaimed "English Gentleman".
Of course, all the above all comes down to a choice in translation.. but it is kind of questionable when Del Rey seem to be the only one that doesn't fit in with say, what, five or six different Negima translations (if you include various scanlations, anime fansubs, and the CY english publication of it) are doing. Especially when the choice ends up being less awesome.
Oh, and since I'm ranting.. what REALLY bugged me is how they took Setsuna's calling of Konoka "ojou-sama" and made it out like she was calling her her sister. Way off base translation, and just makes Setsuna look kinda of like an obsessive nutball.
But yeah.. if it's all improved now.. that's cool and I'd be more than willing to try em out since they do have honorifics and nice T/L notes. Just a shame that they'll most likely never fix the earlier volumes, and that's what many will be stuck with. 🙁
