I agree. The anime has the characters all rounded and weird looking. and while the subs are obviously better, the anime in general isn't that good.

@Spanky151: In response to your signature, I'm afraid I must be an otaku. OH, THE HUMANITY!

the anime is just too blahed out - like watered down booze , you can taste a little bit of the goodness but not enough to do the job right!

and should i feel bad that i do not know what the colors are for 😕 im no longer otaku 😕 ?

like everyone is saying, the anime is d-grade some what in storyline and mostly in detail, to the manga which is still owning the anime in detail like x1000. Akamatsu-sensei is leading for making manga in detail.

i get that almost instantly but eh like really like watching people dancing to Hare Hare Yukai 😀 🤣

I like the manga, although I sort of miss the whacked out crazy ecchi humor at the beginning of the manga. It's still present, but not as much. But if it did stay like that, I guess it would just become a Love Hina clone, so I guess this is good too.

You would know if you had ever watched the Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi.

another good thing about this manga is that it is different from other akamatsu ken works which are lovve-interest from mostly guy point of view to mostly the many girls point of views in negima and many shounen harem/love comdey

I didn't like Love Hina, but this one I enjoyed for the first six or so volumes. Unfortunately when I realised how long the series was I stopped buying it. I only have the money to buy one overly drawn out series at a time, and right now that series is Prince of Tennis, after which will be Reborn. Maybe I'll pick it up again in a few years. The anime I disliked though, dropped that after a couple episodes.

I like the series a lot because of the way it develops and matures. I've been following the series since around when chapter 80 came out. And what started off as a silly romantic comedy has really turned into something with a lot of depth (well as much depth as you can get with a light-hearted fantasy adventure like this) and amazingly it keeps getting better. If Akamatsu continues progressing as he is and doesn't pull anything strange, this manga shows a lot of promise.

I like Negima! overall and it might end up as one of my favourites (in the long term). I think that part of the reason that I like it is because I don't take things all that seriously. It started off as a subversion of LH (see mangafox ch 227.5 (not a real chapter) with an interview translated in it), which might continue throughout the story. (Actually, it turns out that Akamatsu-sensei wanted to deviate quite a bit from his normal work.) I like Negima mainly because of the humour and because of how well it relates to typical RPGs. I think it might even be slightly self-mocking, which adds to the humour, but it might be bathos (which doesn't really matter in terms of how I enjoy it, but it is an indicator of how good an author he is.).

Personally, I liked the addition of martial arts, which are sometimes well-executed, often easily linked to video games, but sometimes I just find funny. About the story taking on a more serious side, I am happy with the decision because there is still a lot of humour (and some tributes to other series) and I like fantasy/adventure (like the RPGs of old I used to play). About the story having depth, I think that the author worked towards this, but I feel that the execution of it is only medicore -- which isn't a bad thing IMO because it is part of the distinctive feel of the story and it reminds you that the story is a weekly shounen manga. At about the start of volume 4, I think the plot starts rolling forward ok (though maybe because I didn't pick up the series until I could read 150+ chapters, I didn't notice the slow points early in the series as much).

For those of you who disliked this manga based on reading a little of the intro, the first two volumes have a different character from the rest of the story, so you might change your mind if you read more -- though there are also people. The main dislike I have of the story too much fan-service can be annoying at times (when it makes dialogue feel forced or when it happens too often and the story doesn't advance). About fan service, I feel that there while it is too frequent, Akamatsu-sensei makes a story with a lot of details, which you can choose to get lost in (and find potential plotholes, which often resolve themselves with some sort of rationalization as in other shounen action series). In particular later on, there can be multiple consecutive chapters without any or very few frames of fan service. However, these chapters with little fan service are often interrupted by an occasional heavy fan service chapter.

I love the negima! series. I have volumes 1-9 so far. Though because of its length, I've slowed down on collecting it. My shelf space is very limited these days. I'm still trying my best to collect it. As far as the anime goes, I watched all of the first series, and I think it certainly could've been better. I wish it went on for another 26 episodes though.

I stopped liking it around the second tournament and when I realized it was a generic power-up shounen manga with pointless fanservice. It was better before the plot tried to become serious.
