Which shoujo/female mangaka portrays the most realistic guys?
Exactly as the title states, in ur opinion, which shoujo/female mangaka portrays the most realistic guys- talking about personality NOT looks?... and do give examples...
imho, I think Souryo Fuyumi does that pretty well esp in her boyfriend - yeah, i m just a huge fan of hers..but besides that I think, Ueda Miwa is good too though I guess I have read just Peach girl of hers...there are more but I gues I will update that later..

I second Souryo Fuyumi. She does really great job on the characters.
Maybe sahara mizu / yumeka sumomo. (well, my 2 favs X3)
Can't think of anyone else at this moment~
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I guess I agree with Souryo Fuyumi even though I don't read much shojo. But Mars was pretty good xD

Nakahara Aya if only 'cause her boys never seem to fall out a bad romance novel). She gives all of 'em a nice blend of insecurity and sweetness, but keeps the pathos down.
Yazawa Ai gives a decent blend of different types, and mixes in lots of strengths and weakness in most of her boys, making them feel realistic. NINOMIYA Tomoko (Nodame Cantabile)also wins points for the variety of guys she writes (and the various ages she plays with) and still makes 'em more than one note characters.
Also, a very recently scanlated chapter of Koukou Debut stands out, if only for highlighting that a guy can be all cool and suave and still be inexperienced. (I'm starting to think making a guy a virgin should add instant points to the realism scale 'cause it's way more common than the usual playboy alternative; of course somewhere in between is the most optimal.)

I have totally overlooked the part that says "shoujo"... 🤢

I second Yazawa Ai! Her guys all have believable strengths and weaknesses.
I haven't read any of Souryo Furumi's works, though I plan to. I have been hearing good stuff about her.

Not to disagree but any specific notables?....is there anyone like Takumi in RL? 😀 - no, really, I would be interested to study such a char in RL......allegedly the guy who plays Takumi in the dorama dislikes Takumi's character 🤣

The reason I specified "shoujo" and female is because I would like to know, how many such mangakas can make a believable male as you can't deny, you get drawn to such mangas 😀 provided you dont have that "all-perfect-prince-on-the-rescue" or "silent-sexy-all-talented-arrogant-fella" fetish 😀

Almost every politician out there? Charasmatic workaholic who's incapable of been loyal is a pretty standard type, though yeah not one most people would like to emulate.

Agree about Yazawa Ai. Gokinjo Monogatari is actually more realistic than Nana.
Also, the author of Good Father and the author of Itoshi no Nina both seem to do a good job.
I wouldn't call Kodomo no Omocha realistic, but the male lead is so much like someone I know, especially the way he talks, it's uncanny. 😲

The Peach Girl author. Apart from Kiley's evil brother most of her male characters were spot-on.

Yazawa Ai hands down! Some of her earlier work was a bit idealistic (usually not to the very end though) but her newer stuff like Nana, oh yeah!

Yazawa Ai!!! of course...
Her arguable, yet sweet and realistic ending for "Paradise Kiss".
"Nana", the masterpiece which is full of life's lesson.
Mori Kaoru - the author of Emma - The Victorian Romance & Otoyomegatari
WATANABE Taeko - the author of Kaze Hikaru & Hajime-chan ga Ichiban!
NINOMIYA Tomoko - the author of Nodame Cantabile
...
In my opinion, those authors not only portray "the most realistic guys", they portray successfully the big picture with many charaters - all of them are realistic.
Each of them has own strength and style.
