To add to the list...

UNITA Yumi for Usagi Drop -- like... a 30-year-old man raising a child!!!

UMINO Chica for Honey and Clover -- you get to see like... 5 different kinds of men!

YOSHINO Aki for Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei and Yuru Koi -- non-pushy men with an idea of what they want to do in life...

OGAWA Yayoi for Kimi wa Pet -- you have your career man and your young bohemian.

HAZUKI Kanae for Suki-tte Ii na yo -- a respectful, pretty mature high school guy.

Except for Suki-tte Ii na yo - all others are Josei...they are supposed to have more realistic guys..

Would it be a stretch to consider MIDORIKAWA Yuki for Natsume Yuujinchou? Though... granted the story, it would be difficult to consider him "realistic" because of his abilities, huh? But his thought-process? Then again, I just read one of her shorts from Hotarubi no Mori E...

Well...

Idk how REALISTIC he may be to others, but Kurosaki from Motomi Kyousuke's Dengeki Daisy certainly isn't a cliched love interest.

He's brutal, perverted, foul mouthed and smokes cigarettes in almost every scene, she definately portrays him wonderfully as a "hoodlum."

I third (or fourth?) Yazawa Ai and second Ogawa Yayoi 🙂

I think Yamada Nanpei's are pretty realistic too.

Ai Yazawa, very realistic characters in general.

Takako Shimura is also really good at this. Not a shojo mangaka, but she us a female mangaka and many of her works are romance.

Fujieda Toru won me over with Love Allergy but otherwise Fujitsuka Yuki has pretty decent guys. Oh and Shiina Karuho of Kimi ni Todoke deserves special mention too !

My suggestion is MATSUMOTO Tomo. Her characters always feel so real to me, as in Kiss and Beauty is the Beast.

What exactly do you mean by realistic?
Like the most three-dimensional? A guy who still has pretty unordinary characteristics (like, being absolutely gorgeous, some sort of traumatic past etc.) but acts realistically?
Or do you mean like the most normal - a guy that you might actually meet in real life?

Ai Yazawa wins this contest hands down and I'm not just saying that because I'm a fangirl either.

I agree with you whole-heartedly there. Other than that, I've got nothing, but since I'm a fan of Midorikawa-sensei, then I would also agree with Hotarubi no Mori E. Both males from the 2nd and 4th story felt somewhat realistically portrayed in my eyes, though it may have more to do with the sadness and parting and whatnot.

Yup, and in addition to the most realistic guys, I believe she has the most realistic characters (nana) and endings (parakiss).
