Does anyone ever actually die in One Piece?

🤣 I should have used the word "amibition" instead of dreams, but One Piece is big on the accomplyishing-dreams-theme.
Oda's known to make up stuff on the spot when asked about questions he hadn't think of before. It could be that, or he just didn't want the main protagonist to kill anyone, but that would be a boring answer...

Only nameless characters dies in OP. Flashbacks don't count. To me it kinda kills the thrill. But it still a good manga.
...Should wish people would stop comparing OP and Naruto. The fact is that both are good so just deal with it. It's no competition.
mwa ha ha ha...

Doesn't Even Matter that no one dies in One Piece. because Oda-sensei doesn't need people to die to serve as a catalyst for a serious emotional epiphany for a character.
i.e shanks arm, Skypia arc flashback, etc,etc
I don't really see why its a drawback, because its not like the characters are oblivious to the concept of death, this isn't Pokemon ("Your Pikachu has fainted!") They know how it works, and incorporate the prospect of death into the plot very well.
Deaths of major characters ≠ Good Manga, and lack of death doesn't make it bad. One Piece is amazing and easily one of the best series I've seen. 😀
(P.S. <3 Sogeking theme from the anime was ridiculously funny, so i hope they don't kill usopp.
Can't read >_<

No, it just looked like he did. He actually survived and can be seen in a few chapters at the end of the Alabasta arc, as well as in chapter 440, getting the news of the Straw Hats bounties along with Igaram, Chaka, and Cobra. Oda-sensei has a habit of making it seem exactly like people are dead, and then at the end of the arc it turns out that they actually somehow survived, so no impact is lost by their survival, because it still seems like they're dead until after the drama is over and it's just when he's wrapping things up when you find out they're alive, and he doesn't have to actually kill anyone off that way. It happened to Pagaya (Gonis's father) too.

Hmm.. I haven't read it recently.. But if I'm not mistaken.. Don Crieg's first mate and commander of the crew or whatever.. He was not fully cured from the poison and was going to die..

He DEFINITELY didn't die. Luffy was the one who defeated Bellamy. And Luffy never kills his opponents. Here's proof:
Quote from SBS #1, in volume 4
D: Why doesn't Luffy ever kill his enemies? If you look back, he didn't kill Mohji, he didn't kill Helmepp or Captain Morgan, or anyone. Well, Zoro was the one who beat Morgan, but still. Why?
O: Ahh, good question. First of all, Morgan is still alive. His former subordinates put him in prison. So why didn't he kill him? In this era, people put their lives on their beliefs and convictions, and fight. Luffy goes into battle and destroys others' beliefs. When these enemies' beliefs are shattered, and they lose, they feel a pain as great as dying. I think that for these pirates, killing or not killing is secondary to winning or losing.
So yeah. Because Luffy considers dreams so important, he feels that it's worse for his defeated opponent to live with his/her dream shattered then to just die. So Bellamy didn't die. At least, not from Luffy's punch. Though Doflamingo showed up in Mock Town the next day or so and did SOMETHING unpleasant to Bellamy. It's not clear whether Doflamingo killed him or not, but the point is, it's a sure thing that Luffy didn't kill him, both because of Luffy's character design, and because he's seen alive in a later chapter.

I didn't say Luffy killed him. I said Luffy owned him 😐 He was still lying on the ground the next day and some dude came and finished him and his partner off IIRC.

Exactly!
Death doesn't make a manga good.

Ah, so mean Vinceasuma! I love the guy 🙂 I doubt anyone from the crew will be killed though.

blah blah blah
Death is used in more ways than what you've just described.
If important characters die, we tend to drop the idea that their plot armor is impenetrable. When they come across breaking points in the story, it adds a sense of urgency and suspense.
If I start thinking that characters are immortal because the writers are too afraid to kill them off, I begin to lose all respect for that series. Who wants to watch a predictable show?
Death helps a story flow, and it removes the stagnancy that comes from an action series with little bloodshed.
A show like One Piece which doesn't allow characters to flesh themselves out at all only degrades the entire genre and keeps people thinking that anime is just a child's cartoon. :/

I know that this character really isn't a human but i still believe this counts as a death of a main character.
Going Merry died later in the manga, forgot wat chapter it was =p
