I'm not even going to put effort this time to make you clear that Naruto does not suck, and is actually better than One Piece. Though One Piece has its great aspects too.

See~, I'm not bashing like you did. Now you try. 😁

We'll you stated that naruto is better as if it was a universal truth, with no indication that it is only your oppinion. That is bad aswell 😉

Where did I state that as if it was a universal truth? I was mainly talking about myself. 😛 Though I could have made that clearer. 🤣 But I used to find One Piece childish, I kind of still do now >.<, but still it has this kind of attraction that keeps you reading it. 😀

And maybe there are no deaths in One Piece, because it's a 'happy' manga. It's supposed to be alright in the end. But yeah, personally ( 😛 ), Naruto is better generally.

I guess because it's just a very popular manga 😛

anyway I find it very remarkable how this discussion about the deaths in one piece became a discussion about the sucking or non-sucking of naruto -_- That's really neither here nor there...

Well I thought that the bad guys in One Piece died... and although all of the people die in the past it's still odd to say no one dies... They do die but even if no one died isn't it better that way ? 😛 I guess I can understand what you mean with no one dies but a manga doesn't have to have ppl dying in order to be good... I think even without main characters dying (I would kill the author if that happened btw ;P) One piece has its own charm and attraction... Try to see One Piece in itself instead of throwing in references and comparisons to Naruto (Or any other shounen manga for that matter)

(I really love one piece btw ) 😀

Death is used in more ways than what you've just described.

If important characters die, we tend to drop the idea that their plot armor is impenetrable. When they come across breaking points in the story, it adds a sense of urgency and suspense.

If I start thinking that characters are immortal because the writers are too afraid to kill them off, I begin to lose all respect for that series. Who wants to watch a predictable show?

Death helps a story flow, and it removes the stagnancy that comes from an action series with little bloodshed.

A show like One Piece which doesn't allow characters to flesh themselves out at all only degrades the entire genre and keeps people thinking that anime is just a child's cartoon. :/

that's not necessarily true. death doesn't prove the characters aren't invincible, it's only one aspect we consider so. but there are other means to show where they stand and how fleshed out they can be. if you follow Oda's thinking about ambition being thought of by the characters as more than life itself. then you'll also realize that at any moment the characters dreams and goals could be crushed at any moment. the main characters are actually a lot smaller than the forces they're up against in the OP world.

The first time it jarred me (the lack of death) was when the falcon dude(in alabasta) who flew the bomb into the sky blew up and had a great sacrifice to save everyone and the kingdom. It was set up as if his whole life he was training for this one heroic, then 10 minutes later he's a-ok and he didn't really sacrifice anything for the kingdom after all...seemed kind of weak.

it may have seemed weak, but honestly i'm glad he ended up surviving. especially when you think about how awful the situation was made cause of Crocodile.

I read both OP n Naruto every week. I love them both. I don't want to compare them. I don't care. I don't give a damn.

People have already summed this thread up perfectly... There is no death in on One Piece in the present story line just in the flashback. We already know about Pell and his explosion and how he came back like couple chapters later.

There is also the whole CP-9 not being dead and raised money for Rob Lucci surgery.

Luffy doesn't kill, he just shatters dream, ppl know that. One Piece isn't Naruto and vice verse. Sure they both are in Jump and both insanely popular but other then that I don't read Naruto expecting it to be like One Piece. One Piece is driven by the Grand Line and Pirate Era universe and not just Luffy. While Naruto goes more into the relationships of the characters with each other and the actions that follow. To argue which is better is just depending on what your trying to get out each of them at this point in each manga. But hey what do I know, I still enjoy reading Bleach each week.

The way I see it, in the One Piece universe, a romantic era of piracy, life is secondary to one's dreams. The characters value more what they can accomplish within a lifetime than the lifetime itself. Remember that the dangers are always there, the marines, other pirates, unknown diseases from exploration. Therefore, its is far worse, when some random rubber dude comes out of nowhere and shatters whatever feeble dream you had put together up to that point and then leaves you alive to wallow in your misery. That seems a lot worse than dying, in One Piece, at least concerning the villains.

well to answer the question though, even though it wasn't main characters who died, there were some Marine deaths during the Buster Call at Enies Lobies. remember one of the Vice-Admirals fired upon one of the ships that Luffy was one fight Lucci.
