Quote from TheRedSpade

mangia in an italian accent

YES! i thought i was the only one lol.

unfortunately i've never gotten used to pronouncing it correctly, and no one has corrected me, so i've been saying it like that since middle school ;/

the real way = "sleeve" in spanish, my second language, so awkward D: speaks spanglish quite often

How to describe it.. It's not Monga and certainly not mango (how do you even manage to pronounce manga as mango? 🤢 )

Man-ga?
Well, the Swedish way of saying it (I guess? There's always some guy saying it with some weird pronunciation).. We don't really pronounce the "a" in "Man" like you would in English.
It's almost no difference to how a Japanese would say it.

Well, a little while ago I got used to pronouncing it the "real" way (monga); but when talking to my brother and when I unconsciously read out loud at home I catch myself pronouncing it the standard English way.

It doesn't bother me much either way b/c English is a flexible language w/ varying dialects and slang; so unless I'm speaking Japanese I don't bother nitpicking.

I say manga the American way, but at times I say "mahn-ga".

But it all depends on who you talk to.

I used to and still pronounce it as Man-ga.
"Man" and is "Hey Man!! Wait up!". "Ga" as in "Garfield".

But I heard the Japanese pronunciation... and it sounded more like... "Maang-gha" with a slightly suppressed "n" sound. But that's me.

P.S. ::> And in (one of) my Language(/s), if Manga was pronounced the Japanese way, it'd mean - "I/He/We/She asked for (some object/favor)". Change the "M" in Manga to "N", and try pronouncing it the Japanese way again... it'd mean "Naked" 😛

My natural way is to say "main guh". If i'm around people who read a bunch of it or who where in my japanese class, I say it the way it's supposed to be said.

Well, depending who I'm around with I might pronunce it 'japanese comics' or manga. In the latter case, I follow up with "don't correct me." and they don't. It works for everyone.

It really depends who I talk to...

I'm Hungarian so I usually pronounce it fitting to my mother language - simply because most ppl know the word this way...

But I guess on different languages I would pronounce it ma_*n-ga...

  • I can't really show it otherwise...But if someone ever heard the words unmei and donna in Japanese those will know what I mean 🙄

Mah-n-gá
Maybe because I´m brazillian and that´s the easiest way for me.
It´s funny because there are 2 other words spelled the same way here, so I pronounce manga a little bit different, with the last a stronger 🤢

In my head, I think Main-ga. Ai as in A as in Faith.

When I speak, I pronounce it as Mon-ga. O as in A as in Father.
